Some time ago, used to be able to get 18 months balance transfer with anz for existing customers with 0% interest and no fees just by calling up. This FY, called up again and got offered only 12 months with 3% fees which obviously sucks and I didn't take it up yet. Any tips on getting a longer period or no fees? Threaten to cancel to get through to card retention?
You mean threaten to cancel, but don't actually follow through in cancelling?
Yep - when they go “would you like to cancel now?” - just state you need to get your affairs in order an will call back once you with your new bank. As up to that point they have no idea if you bluffing.
Pretty sure you have been flagged, you might get that offer once or twice, but there is a point they stop offering it.
Good luck with card retention. I tried them to avoid the fee on my ANZ black, and was refused. Said if really wanted to keep the card, I either pay or cancel and sign up again for free. Blamed it on the “system” as to not being available to give a big enough discount to cover. I think they were just having a laugh…
Always a shot though. Worse case is you go shopping for a new facility to do the balance transfer? Even if you get there you not forced to cancel (even if you not there to bluff to get a discount).
