What's good RAM?

I understand that the higher the MHz the better ( i think ) but after that it gets a bit weird, but basically I have a ryzen 5 3600 and want to get ram at 3200 mhz but don't know which one would be suitable considering the reviews and peoples opinion on different ram manufactures

For the 3600, it doesn't matter because RAM compatibility has improved dramatically since the first generation Ryzen processors where people were having all sorts of issues with RAM. The speed of the infinity fabric is also no longer tied to memory speed, so the benefit of faster RAM will be more similar to Intel chips (which is basically not much).

Personally I wouldn't spend significantly more on RAM because the benefits of faster RAM are very small in the scheme of things.

Paying for higher than 2133Mhz does not make sense unless you cannot spend the money on faster CPU or GPU.

RAM speed increases make barely any difference to most tasks including games whereas faster CPU or GPU makes a much larger difference.

An example of the "amazing" gains you will get from faster RAM: compressing files using 7zip will be 5% faster than using 2133Mhz.

  • you don't need to go over 3000Mhz, unless the 3200Mhz is not too much different in price

lateny is more important than the speed

you don't need more than 16Gb of ram unless you do a lot of processing

I use low profile (I had a Noctua D15 then) Corsair as it has lifetime warranty, mine is 2400Mhz (as it was the best ram with the new X99 boards)

    have a read of this:-

  • Samsung B-die RAM. But it's sold under a variety of other brand-names so you'll sometimes have to track down production dates and batch numbers…
