IKEA Sonos SYMFONISK Speaker Range, Sonos or IKEA Quality?

What are your opinions about Ikea's SYMFONISK lamp and bookshelf wi-fi speakers

They are on display at the moment but will be available to buy in September

Was considering buying Sonos One speakers to pair with my playbase, but these look pretty good.

No voice control, just app control

    US$179 (~AU$257) for the lamp (Or €179 = AU$286) , US$99 (~AU$142) for the bookshelf speaker (Or €99.95 = AU$160)

    Physical button could be handy

    • US$179 (~AU$257) for the lamp

You forgot the 30% markup tax Ikea has on Australian products.

If that was the price I'm getting a lamp. I could use both in the room I'd like to add a Sonos 1/one to.

Although the sound/performance would want to be on par with those devices.

      • According to the review the lamp is the same as a Sonos:1 apparently. Needs more comparisons and specs like wattage etc.

Seems they get released in August in the US so might get more details then.

And yes I know we can get stooged with the Australia tax just figured people might like indicative pricing 😉

        Prices released - $269 & $149

  • I never knew I need my lamp and my speaker to be amalgamated.

    I still don't.

    • It's interesting what the review states - in a bedroom, if you'd had the lamps on the bedsides, and a TV opposite the bed with Sonos speakers, you could setup the lamps as surround speakers

      • Ah. I have a rule of no TV in bedrooms and dining rooms.

I like well defined use of space.

        • Fair enough. I know that topic always divides people! I like watching TV in bed, would never bother with 5.1 in the bedroom tho lol still happy with my Dick Smith sound base thing

          • @spackbace: Was just going to say exactly that. Surely bedroom viewing is very well served with a well integrated sound bar.

… and the rule is to prevent people being divided. With phones, people are sufficiently isolated. Communal spaces would benefit from exclusive TV privileges.

            • @[Deactivated]: I live alone except when I have my daughters every 2nd weekend, so I'm an exception to the rule ;)

@spackbace: Fair enough. I'd live in a studio cabin in the woods so technically, the whole place would be one room.

Could be in a hot tub with 7.2.2 setup.

                  That sounds loud.

                  • @serpserpserp: I really want to hear the dialogue over the bubble jets.

  • Suggested Lamp is IKEA quality, Speaker is Sonos quality.

As far as I know it was a collaboration between IKEA and Sonos. So I think the poll option I added it accurate.

  • Just thought I would share since I came across this video.
    A detailed IKEA SYMFONISK tear-down:
    https://youtu.be/ZB413S8KDmo
For those who find the video too long: the internals are basically identical to Play:1.
I would say overall sound quality is probably better on Play:1 / SONOS One.

Other reports say the Lamp model is of similar design to the Play:1 as well (Play:1 because they are missing microphones), but the Lamp sounds better than the ‘bookshelf’ SYMFONISK since the enclosure is larger / different.

And here is another video of 2x SYMFONISK being used together with SONOS Beam for a 5.1 surround setup.

  • I'm wondering if anyone here ended up getting the SYMFONISK and if so have any thoughts on using the as rear speakers for home theater?

    • I would just buy second hand play 3 speakers . They are still supported with S2. I have 4 hooked up with a play base and produces fantastic sound

      • cool, thanks
