I'm an Accountant and Wannabe Bio Hacker

Hiya

Been lurking for approximately 2 years and figured I'd finally join in.

Young accountant that likes deals and living minimally.
Weaknesses are Frequent Flyer Credit Card bonuses, Aliexpress and free shipping

Everyone on here seems to like getting the most out of their money, I also try to get the most out of my time by optimising sleep, fitness, diets ect.
Which is a challenge when I have to balance time and cost, which I don't really calculate, I just go off instinct.

Yeah, I heard if you recharge between 30-70% it is really optimal on the health.

      We talking batteries or cyborgs?

  • +1

    ok

The post was a lot less interesting than the title. Thought it was going to be about cyborgs and stuff.

    • +12

Accountant was in the title - dead giveaway there would be nothing interesting here

OP's post is boring as hell since its all fluff ie I try to do this, I try to do that but nothing specific
losers try winners go home and pork the prom queen

Well actually an AusKiwi accountant is perfect for another topic. Didn't someone want an accountant that understood Aus and NZ taxes?

  • +1

What do you do to optimise your sleep, fitness, and diet?

    • +1

      According to the OP:

which I don't really do, I just go off instinct.

Which to me translates to: "depending on what I feel like.

      All of the ellipses.

      • +1

My bad, that was a little misleading, what I mean is when time and cost conflict - e.g. should I pay for convenience vs save for inconvenience

    • Sleep (Currently function well on a consistent 6 hrs a night & working to reduce that) - I track my sleep every night and hacks so far have been completely blacking out my room, Yoga Nidra, tilted bed to 15% (Head higher than feet), meditate for 10 mins during the day, half a shot of vodka before bed to improve glymphatic function.
Fitness - Tabata workouts and I run to work
Diet - Supplements and meal replacements with approx 50% RDI of most micro nutrients.

Please don't think about doing any of these without doing your own research.

I have half a bottle of vodka before bed, I sleep like a baby, bit dusty in the morning, but a quick scotch for breakfast and I’m ready to go

        • Agree this works a treat, a little expensive for my liking though.

Where do you get the best vodka deals?

  • +1

    Cold showers are cheap

    • +1

When it comes to cold showers I'm a weakling…

I also try to get the most out of my time by optimising sleep, fitness, diets ect.
Which means I have to balance time and cost of everything, which I don't really do, I just go off instinct.

I guess you did put "wannabe" in the title…

It'd be interesting to see how it'd work out if someone reduced the cost and benefits of everything (costs being: money, time, effort, benefit being:…. utility gained?) to a single/common unit of value to compare them and optimise for efficiency.

You'd have to work out diminishing returns curves for each benefit (I assume sleep is maximally beneficial up to maybe 4-5hrs depending on the person, with each additional hour having less marginal utility for example).

I would say Biohacking is about optimising time and effort, so I am in a sense doing that.

No idea now somebody would bring that to a common unit of value, or whether it would even be possible.

Where I face clashes (and go off instinct) is where I find a product that will improve time and effort that I know I want to purchase (but no urgency) the question becomes whether I wait for a deal to save money, or do I buy it immediately and yield the time and effort benefits immediately, which could be worth more than the amount saved had I waited for a deal.

Or is it worth searching for a deal to save x% on a relatively cheap product. Say finding a deal takes 10 minutes and I save $20, that's only worth doing if I earn less than $120 per hour after tax (which I earn much less than), but I'm early in my career, and would hope that one day I'll earn much more, so do I use my expected rate of earnings (aka a deferred wages method).

Delving into deeper territory now, but I do think it'd help for people on here to contemplate this more. Are you saving money as a hobby or out of genuine need, and could that time spent saving money better be used upskilling to earn more.

  • Your already way better than Tim

    TL:DR

I'm boring and not so good with my money.

    Hey op,

I'm a Young Accountant and Wannabe Bio Hacker

I plan on studying accounting next year.
Are there any tips you could give me, names of any fat books (really interested in fat accounting books)!

Been lurking for approximately 2 years and figured I'd finally join in.

    I discovered OzBargain in 2011 or 2012.
Browsed and visited occasionally, didn't buy anything. First OzBargain purchase was in 2015 when Amaysim had a $5 deal that came with a $25 eBay voucher, this is about when I joined OzBargain.

I don't care for outlandish anything. I enjoy the lifestyle of Australia and my friends and family.
Plus the more minimal it is the more likely it'll be better for the environment!

Never bought or read any fat accounting books, fortunately.

If you want to go into accounting I'd suggest trying to find undergraduate jobs, reality is the degree isn't necessary to work.

Plus you'll get lots of study deductions and be an employers dream when you graduate.
