KDNC Express Road Bike from Torpedo 7

40

Got this in my email. They say RRP $999 but is now $499. Looks like a really decent road bike with good specs.

  • Sora group set?? Hmmm… I highly doubt this would ever sold for 1k. Still a reasonable unit for $500.

    • You usually take stated RRP figures with a grain of salt. Anyway, I agree with you

  • It is worth noting that this is 9sp Sora - not the 8sp sora seen on the BigW diamondback for $250.

Am I the only one who think KDNC on the downtube looks like KONG at a glance??

  • Lol usual price $799.99

  • pretty good for $500, definitely would never have fetched $1k though, not even 2 years ago when the exchange rate is lower. You could get a carbon forked bike with similar wheel sets but FULL SORA (this one's missing crank and chain) for $750

  • Here's a comparable deal from goldcross http://www.goldcross.com.au/Fuji-festival-2011.aspx

http://www.fujibikes.com/bike/details/newest_3_0 has a carbon fork, but 8speed sora
Both are probably made by merida (haha)

    • I thought Fuji made their own bikes.

Also, for anyone considering sora - don't: it defeats the purpose of having a road bike in 2011.

      • What would you suggest instead, in a similar price bracket?

      • I've been using Acera on a hybrid. What does it mean to use Sora in 2011?

        • +1

          Sorry for the necro response.

Sora is just shitter in every conceivable way, including durability. Get tiagra as a minimum.

As for price range, I have no answer on that front. You will struggle to get 105 for under 1k, but maybe there is tiagra at ~$700?

  • How does this compare to the big w diamondback bike. I know it will be better but how much better?

    • +1

if you are going to buy a bike from big W, you will have to ask yourself "what are you using the bike for?" if you are just using it for a weekend ride then go ahead and buy it but if you are looking at using to ride to and from work ie. ride it for more than 50Km/week then you will need a better bike.

Cheap bikes will just wast your time and money.
