Flying with prescription medication (valium + antidepressants)

Hey there, I have a flight from Australia to the UK soon and I want to bring some valium (diazepam). However I was prescribed it a long time ago and I don't still have the prescription papers, and it's not easy for me to get back to the original doctor before then (moved house). I also have my antidepressants to take. I was wondering if anyone knows if I absolutely need a letter from my GP (or the original prescription) to travel with these things, or if I should be okay? (The flight changes in Taiwan).

(Was going to post in travel forum but it seems to be for travel purchases only)

My GF travels with a pharmacy including valium. She doesn't carry any paperwork but only takes enough for the trip plus another week and always has the original packaging. Never has an issue.

usually it shouldn't be a problem as long as they are in their original packaging, which would have a label with your name and pharmacy that supplied the medication to you plus their contacts.

I travel with some interesting medicines - some are injections that can't go through x-ray and have to be in carry on luggage as well. I've never had a problem but I was told a long time to go that original packaging, photocopies of any scripts, and a letter from your GP listing the things you are carrying will help you out.
One guy I used to work with was saved a lot of trouble by having the letter from his GP, the country he was going to had banned one of his drugs so instead of causing him trouble they just told him to throw it out.

Hide them in some headphone cases and you should be fine.

    • Don't do this, this is really bad advice.

  • The best antidepressant is to take me. I'm happy to go to the Bristish museum whilst singing Mary Poppins songs and impersonating Charlie Bucket, Tim Brooke Taylor and Veruka Salt from Willy Wonka. Have a good time even if you say no.

  • Some countires can be VERY strict with what you have described. Japan and Singapore come to mind. I'd get to a GP to get a letter, 1 to show authories, 2 for your own anxiety.
