  • Does anyone know, if this blue ray player is region free for the DVDs?

    • oops, misread comment

    • Region 4 - prolly could flash the firmware with that applicable from the Region of your DVDs, each time you wanna watch em /:

I think you're right. You have to load the firmware every time you want to change regions :(

Someone mentioned on another website: "In the player menu push 8520 on the remote to access the secret menu. It won't allow you to turn on region free."

    • Thanks for the link, but I already say that, but it did not say anything for the region lock.

  • Was also watching the price of this drop at my local woolies from $149 to $99 this week (metro melbourne)

The reviews say this is a very basic model blu ray and I have no interest in the supplied videos. If the price drops to say $70 I'll be all over it just as a backup unit for the kids TV.

    • they were charging $199 for it previously

      • I've been waiting for this player to come down in price, too. My local Woolies had them for $199 at Christmas, then about 3 weeks later it went down to $179, then about 3 weeks after that it went to $159 where it's been ever since. Might be time to go to my local Woolies to see if theirs are $99 yet.

I have also been monitoring this at my local woolies, 199 to 179 to 149 to 129 to 99 waiting til it comes down to 29

    • thanks for sharing your observation

that link seems to suggest its region locked to region 4

  • Divx / mkv ??

    • The manual says it does do MP4. Not entirely sure whether it will support MKV (specifically h264)

  • Crift85, which melbourne woolworth store did you see this?

    • Rosebud West

  • Might have to make a trip to Woolworths.

  • ..

  • excellent

  • if you are using it, can you please let me know can it support MKV?

  • Is there any way to attach wireless LAN with these?

  • nice price. might let my granma know about it

    Woolworths becomes an electronic store?

    • no woolworths has always sold dvds, blurays, batteries, small tv's, small household appliances etc

    • He's certainly living up to his alias for posting ignorant comments.

Make sure no-one tells him it used to be called Safeway - that'll really surprise him !!

    • Aldi did .. so did they!

  • Woolworths or Big W?

In my Woolworths they are on top of the fridges above the cheese. They should have put them in the pest control isle. A good movie will usually keep kids entertained.

    First Blood - oh yeah!

Nice first post BTW ; )

  • The spec says it has ethernet…is this just for the (probably) crappy BD Live thingy, or can you actually stream from a network etc?

    Edit:

No streaming from the looks…from the manual:

"LAN jack - Use this to connect to a network with an always-on broadband connection. It is reserved for future usage of BD-Live"

These must be exclusive to woolies? I cant seem to find any other retailer that stocks this model number.

Apologies if this is hijacking the thread, but there is also this one at dse for 99 dollars (online only until wednesday). Stand alone blu ray player with no extras. One of the three reviews state they had no trouble making it region free. Doesn't say free delivery but when I put it through at checkout it stated free delivery. http://dicksmith.com.au/product/GH7022/philips-blu-ray-playe…

An ebayer is already at it for $150, selling the Toshiba Blu Ray player, HDMI Cable and the 6 movies http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Toshiba-BDX1100KY-full-HD-Blu-ray…

His name was broden, he was a showgirl…

      • Broden's nose would be longer than Manilow's, with them fibs he tells hehe

    • lazy bugger! you'd think he would at least break up the bundle to make it less obvious!
you know, bd player one auction, hdmi cable another and the 6 movies separate, even at 5 bucks each + ship he should still turn a lazy ass profit

  • For those in WA, I just called 5 diff stores today and finally managed to find one at Morley Galleria Woolies (who only had 1 left). Seems like it's not easy to find in WA! To save ppl time, the following stores are out of stock: the 2 CBD ones, Belmont and Carousel.

  • Seen 4 boxes at front check out area at W/W Parramatta Westfiled (NSW) today at 3pm.

  • EBAY is filling up with these - including someone who bought 7

I got the last one at Thornleigh Woolies today…

It was still marked $199 but scanned at $99…

  • There is 1 left at Logan Hyperdome. It is at the service desk above the cigarettes.

  • 1 left at parramatta ww as at 1pm today at front desk
