Good EOFY Desktop deal

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know where i can find a really good EOFY desktop deal?

I'm looking to spend about $1500-$1800 for JUST a tower; no monitor, no keyboard/mouse. The desktop will need to be use primarily to run multiple Virtual Machines so i would need at least 8gbs of RAM and i would really prefer an SSD to help speed things up.

  • Have you though of making your own build?

Here's to help you get started

woops, i guess you have already started

Yeah it's better to have it built for you/build it yourself than buy it off retailers

  • Yeah, not looking to buy a dell or anything like that.

I know how to build my own however, EVERYTIME i go to build a new system i find that each store lacks a certain part i want and i end up having to look up about 30 different stores before i end up finding all the parts i want.

I'm thinking of just buying a pre-built desktop for that reason, but i don't want to have to pay a premium for the build cost (i found some stores had $300+ price hike just for putting it together!)

    • i end up having to look up about 30 different stores

You could do that, or you could just use one: http://staticice.com.au/
Pre-built systems generally won't be to your liking. Nor do you feel the same satisfaction of building your own PC.
Though, nowadays, hardly anything can go wrong with building your own computer, it either fits or it doesn't.

      • +1

The problem with this option is that I end up spending a ton of money for shipping each part and having to wait for each part to get here.

It's also a pain to have to claim back each part on tax…

        • Used ARC computers once before (in Sydney), only charged me like $60 for assembly. They build stuff on order so you just choose the parts you want, add 'assembly' to your basket and your golden. They're not the cheapest, but they're pretty reasonable and I've dealt with them on warranty twice without issue (given the customer service at most tech stores thats a massive plus from me).

        • Well if you're feeling lazy then of course you'd want it built by a shop.
And while some parts are only available in very specific stores, I mostly aim for ones which I can pick up. Like Ambiguous said, ARC is pretty good for that. They even pricematch apparently.

  • not sure what your problem here could be.

if you looking at branded pre built: HP/DELL, you talking about Harvey Norman and those big shops(HN still have 30% off for their sale not sure when does it end i think)

if you looking at customised tower in a place, many computer shops do it too.

but having said its possible that they dont carry all parts you want and possibly give you a cheaper alternative, but thats what it is when you want pre built comps. and you can ask them to put in what you want and do you a quote too if that helps
