Malcolm DVD (Awesome 1986 Australian Movie) Only $3.95 at Devoted DVD. Sells for $15 Elsewhere

110

Hi all, I have been getting a bit sentimental and decided to hunt down some old Aussie comedies.
I have managed to find a couple of great bargains at a store my relative owns.

Who remembers this awesome movie from the 80's? This is a classic Australian comedy.

Go crazy on google and you will find that this DVD sells everywhere for $15.
It is even $13.99 "on sale" at JBHiFi.com

At www.devoteddvd.com.au they currently have it on their website on clearance for $3.95
Edit: These DVDs may have been cleaned or had their cases replaced, but should be as new condition.
I have bought stuff from Devoted before and they usually have a reasonable amount of stock.

DevotedDVD also have Death in Brunswick for $1.95 ($18.99 at JB)so grab both Aussie movies and possibly save on postage.

This is only my third submission to OzBargains. Feedback appreciated.

Postage $1.80

Best just to stick to the one post for the same website and list the bargains found there. Also remember to quote shipping charges. :)

EDIT - Great first three posts though. :)

Thanks for the feedback. I remember seeing someone else list a few items before so i think I know what you mean. I will need to figure out how to create URL hot links in the text. Something new to learn.

      Devoted postage from $1.80. Thanks.

I thought devoted made those cheap asian copies which actually cost them less then 50 cents

Have heard of people getting computer burned copies with lame ass sticker stuck on top made to seem legit but is really fake. Mod: Removed unnecessary derogatory remark

  • Lol this the movie with the train weirdo and his franken-tram? Pretty funny stuff XD

  • Did not know about posting multiple items on one post. Sorry.

However, on the Death in Brunswick link I have mentioned, I have nothing to do with this store but I am related to the owner. So I ensure I look at this site when I am comparing prices. Like everyone on OzBargain, I buy from whoever has the best price. Just thought I should mention on this posting also since I stuffed up and posted 2 seperate things from the same store. You will also notice the Devoted site is a bit of a mess, so i doubt anyone would have found this deal without me pointing it out. Great movie. Still remember the car splitting in half from watching this 25 years ago.

  • Great Aussie movie at good price, it is surprising however that this movie sells for $15 based on the age of the movie.

EDIT: Just checked ebay and the web, it is $15 for this movie.

  • That tram was a classic. However I'm too cheapskate an OzBargainer to even want to own it. If I feel nostalgic I'll borrow it from my council library to watch. LOL. But thanks for the heads up. And tell the owner to fix his website (sort by price ascending, as I mentioned in the other thread), it can only improve his sales.

  • These so called "cheap" DVDs are actually refurbished. DevotedDVD get scratched NQR discs from Umbrella Entertainment and "clean" them and then reseal them. Funny how their prices are cheaper than from the distributor themselves (http://www.umbrellaent.com.au/p-1605-malcolm.aspx). If anyone does purchase one I recommend you take a look at the dodgy sealing job for further proof.

Also you should mark yourself as a rep asansome. You say you have "nothing to do with the store" but are related to the owner and advertising here for him.

    • Can anyone confirm or deny this. I did a quick google search but couldn't find anything.

      • Just made a call for more info. What I was told: Devoted get discs that may have a damaged case or have had a loose disc in the case. They replace the case and clean if neccessary. I was told that a scratched disc needs a serious repair that is time consuming so they usually throw any damaged discs in the trash. So if you don't mind a disc that may have a new case and has been checked, you can save yourself $10.

Thanks for the information. It would better business practice if they advertised the fact on the pages where it applies though.

    • @insider23456 I have looked at the requirements at being called a "rep" and because I do not work for this store I am not allowed to do this. If these are brand new refurbished discs, people should keep that in mind, but still seams a good deal. I am sure they would not sell DVDs that do not work. Thanks for the link it has a good video of the movie.

    • @halfrabbit. I agree Devoted should highlight these may have new case or been cleaned. I will pass the feedback on. I think it would actually explain to people why they can sell these so cheap.

    • Ah ha, this explains it.

I emailed them this: Apart from the Malcolm DVD, the insides of the cases of the other two were broken and the DVDs were moving freely inside and scratched.

Reply: I recommend selecting sleeve's with your shipments.

When we ship out the DVDs are in position and not rattling around. Australia Post must have been very rough with your shipment

  • Add postage please

    • I did put postge cost in a reply above. I am new to this. I just noticed that the edit button for the original comment is above the comment not below where I have been looking. I have just updated the original comment with postage information.

  • Thank you for posting this, I had not seen either movie so ordered them both when you put it up.

Received yesterday and I watched both of them yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed them, personally liked death in brunswick better, but they were both so funny

    thanks again

I should comment that the discs were moving about freely inside and due to that slightly scratched, but did not effect the playing of it, and for the price I dont care
