Drains for Outdoor / Garden Taps

I'm located in QLD and my garden taps are attached to the external walls of my house. The water runs to the lawn near the house's foundation. I recently had issues with termites in which the house has been treated and inspected yearly. Unfortunately, due to the taps locations its a little hard to simply slope the ground to have the water run away from the house.

I'm now wondering, is it worthwhile installing drains underneath these garden taps?
And if drains were installed, would they need to connect to the stormwater or sewer line?

I've read that drains aren't necessary since the taps are off most of the time. But, that drains would be preferred over none since they can leak.

I have read that in QLD, an outdoor shower with only cold water can drain to the storm water. I would assume the same applies with the garden taps. I know this differs between states.

  • I'm in QLD and have taps attached to the outside of the house with no drains (but land is flat) I barely use the taps. the one I do use then I have a hose attached.

considering that is unlikely for the taps to be running for a long time, then I'd suggest digging a hole beneath where the tap/flow is. putting in some 10cm wide poly pipe vertically. then cover the top with a grate.

the pipe would allow allow a significant amount of water to be captured. and it would then soak harmlessly in to the subsoil.

it's not like you are leaving the tap flowing for hours. I'm assuming you are talking about small amounts of water - e.g. less than a litre. but you don't want it to pool.

  • French drain at an angle away from the house where water remains pooling for awhile after it rains no need for it to be attached to storm water you could try to move it to a driveway or towards the road but stormwater would make it move faster

  • +1

What about a bucket under the tap when you use it?

  • Just fix the leaking tap

  • Can you make a rubble drain under the taps? Had them at one of my places and they worked well for the application.
