Philips Hue 2m Smart LED Lightstrip Plus $99.20 @ Bunnings

70

Seems a fair bit cheaper than the RRP. Not as good as previous deals though. I am in QLD and this deal seems available at stores that have stock. Got 2 this morning.

  • $50 a metre for an LED light strip? Is the Phillips Hue software worth that sort of price?

I thought led strips were more like $5 a metre.

Yes when linked into your hue ecosystem. Room/zone/individual control from hue dimmers and switches, entertainment control using hue sync. This is not for you if you're just after basic lights or lumens/$ or basic control using a smartphone app.

  • these light strips are expensive, even the yelights strip is around $80. use to see it here for $25-$30.

I have no experience with the Hue strips but the lifx and yelight strips are great.

    • Do lifx work when your internet is down?

      • im not sure sorry but i assume so.

    • Hue is better.

  • These were $67ish a few weeks ago. I wouldn’t buy at this price.

  • These were $87 yesterday at David Jones, could get it for 10% cheaper by price match at Bunnings.
Agree, I would wait for slightly better price, unless you need them now.

  • So what do these do that the yeelight don't?

    • Main diff is will work without internet connection, due to the hue hub. Also higher quality leds that have more vibrant colours.
I have yeelights all round. A mate of mine has hues, and they look better for sure.
I can't justify the extra spend on my part, now I'm in the yeelights eco system.

      • Yeah I've got yeelights spread throughout, but haven't seen much deals on the strip lately.

Vibrant colors might be more important to me for strips…
Actually I'm not sure what I'd do with strips yet, but feel I want them.

Are waterproof ones around? Wouldn't mind around 30m of rgb for my pool

Just changed over from the Yeelights to Hues.

Hues are a lot brighter and doesn't rely on WiFi.
There's also a lot of things that can be done in the app natively rather than using a lot of IFTTT applets. For example, the Coming/Leaving Home Routines and fatigue lighting scenes.

I think the main hurdle of getting into the Hue ecosystem is the cost of the bridge, which you can get away with if you have Echo Plus since it has a zigbee controller built in. The bulbs are roughly the same price or cheaper than the Yeelight bulbs if they're on sale.

If you have an Raspberry Pi lying around, you could probably setup Home Assistant instead of purchasing the bridge.
<$100 for the Starter Kit is a good deal though since it includes 3 Bulbs and the Bridge.

  • I really want one but this still seems a bit steep.

  • I recently begun my smart light adventure and search and i ended up deciding on investing in the HUE system because currently I don't have an internet connection. The set up was extremely easy using the app from my phone.

Of course without internet there are many limited abilities using the lights but i can definitely say once there is internet connection I will be able to do alot more.. especially everybody talking about specific eco room controls and more colour controls etc.

My mate using LIFX but the number of colours that it can do does not seem at the same level as HUEs.
