Telstra $65pm for 12m with 60GB Data & $400 JB Gift Card @ JB Hi-Fi

1290

Another gift card from JB hifi, not as good as deal in the past with $500 gift card but still might interest some people.

Some people able to terminate the contract immediately in the past deal without paying ETC.

          • @scuderiarmani: When did you sign up to your plan? I signed up over a month ago now when they had the $500 gift card promotion. My rep said they don't do port in credit anymore. Hmm..
Can you pm your reps name please?

            • @kimba88: I did ask to have it emailed, hasn't yet. Only today.

              • @scuderiarmani: Oh maybe that's why. I think it's easier for them to add credit to an account if it's fresh maybe

                • -2

@kimba88: Doubt it. My account is fresh as well. Brand new with Telstra since the last $500 promo from JB. No luck with port in credit even after few agents and supervisor to deal with. But somehow, somebody got that privilege. Talking about no standard or perhaps double standard from Telstra

    • is $69 plan still available? can't find it on Telstra website. thanks.

  • $33.60 if you consider the JB card equal to currency

  • Can someone confirm if data is throttled?

I changed from Optus to Telstra via a JB deal and the speeds + reception has been dreadful at home, in the city and at work in comparison to previously.

    • -1

See my above comment in regards to JBHIFI-Telstra plans. In short- yes.

      • I had no idea this was the case. Any way we can get real Telstra?

        • You'd have to be ok with going to the standard Month to Month plans telstra is offering - and you'd have to contact Live chat to see if they would even waive contract termination fees if you switch to real telstra.

          • @NitroNinja: What? Is there an actual basis for this? I'm on the old JB $45 plan with 50gb and I get 180mbps down at home.

      • No it’s not! Like a simple google search will tell you that JB are a DEALER not an MVNO. Stop spreading misinformation like you KNOW.

    • I agree, Optus to Telstra, and now regretting it but without ETC, I'll port back to Optus very soon.

Sometime I question why do I need NBN.

    • +1

      Did you find your answer?

      • The only issue is that I cannot share my internet connection from my phone plans at home. I have 100gb and I don’t download, it’s enough for me and ironically faster than NBN.

        • Are you sure? What SIM do you have that won't allow you to usb tether or hotspot?

          • @chinezejew: You can hotspot. But my phone cannot be connected to my home router.

    • +2

      Latency.

      • Not an issue for me as I am not heavy on online gaming.

    • Currently using 4G using prepaid sims. Have FTTP connection but refuse to pay a $300 to connect it. Regardless, using $30 p/m for our internet without any contract.

  • bonus Huawei GT watch if you take the P30 offer

    https://consumer.huawei.com/au/phones/p30/

    • T&C says" Huawei P30|P30 Pro must be purchased between 15/07/2019 - 15/08/2019 from Telstra or Vodafone."

If I have 10 months left on a current plan, would the idea be:
    1. "upgrade" to a month to month plan, pay device buy out on current plan.
    2. port out
    3. use this deal to port back in
    4. live chat to convert to month to month? I have seen some comments not 100% sure on this step

    • +1

Instead of asking on ozb why not try it yourself, as everyone’s situation is different like most comment above

      • didn't want to rush a $500 buy out if the porting will not be completed by the time this deal expires.

        • Mine managed to this morning, I doubt you should bother now. Regardless with that level of fee why bother…

          • @scuderiarmani: Ikr, no etc at this rate is like winning the lottery

  • +1

Don't know if anyone else experienced this, but I went on live chat after going from the JB deal to the month to month Telstra plan and I kicked up a fuss about not getting a $10 port in discount anymore. They ended up applying $120 credit to my account for a year's worth of $10 discounts. Now I can use it up and port out again!

    • good on u, not everyone is lucky to get the credit, regardless the credit or not, this is still a decent deal.

      • I agree it's a good deal even without it. I say go for it, you might even get lucky with their online chat like many have.

    Here’s what I did:
1: Attended JB and ported over to the 65pm. Received gift card.
2: contacted chat and requested they change to the 50pm month to month plan. Changed without an issue, confirmed I could cancel at the end of one month if I chose to and also confirmed that there’d be no early termination charge for changing from the JB deal. All correct.
3: Requested that I be given a discount as I have two services with Telstra. Wasn’t successful as they said the plan is month to month, free 5g trial etc. I didn’t complain. Fair enough I thought, as I’ll likely be porting out in a month to a better value plan.

Not sure if this is the best value way of doing things but I’m pretty happy.

    • Thays really lucky…. To abandon the contract isn't exactly a good business move by them.

    • Hi what 50 plan are you referring to, the 15gb one

  • Does anyone know whether the Apple Watch One Number thing will work on these JB Hi-Fi plans?

  • Would like to port in from Optus today, will the deal still work since it takes time for the number to be ported over?
    Thanks for answering guys.

    • porting takes like 1 minute man

      • Sorry I’m all new to this so i wasn’t so sure,
Thanks for clearing up my confusion though,
I’ll be going to jb today then I guess ^

        • +2

I think there are currently 2 similar deals. One is from goodguys and other is Jbhifi. Same plan and same amount $400 voucher. your choice on which u want haha.

          • +1

@Sertacv2: Just did it and changed the plan to month-to-month,
Thanks for the free 350$ ^^

  • I just want to know if anyone here have done changing the plan to month-to-month plan in the past, then do it again with this deal(basically abusing this JB and Telstra loophole)? Anyone care to share their story whether its okay to do that?

    • For those who unhappy with Telstra’s different treatment/services on them might feel it’s okay to do so.

I think for this instance it’s Telstra’s fault because their agents and system allow it to happens (you can move to different plan)

  • Has anyone here been rejected when trying to change to the no contract Telstra plans?

    • Loophole will be closed tonight.

      • Can you confirm this now? Theres a new deal that in hoping to do…

  • Has anyone changed from the $65 plan to $50 plan on the same day as signing up?

    • Loophole being closed as we speak, on the chat rep level.

    • +3

      Just did it successfully.

      • Same

        • why don't just close the month to month plan as well today?

          • @[Deactivated]: Ok, I transferred the Post-Paid Plan to Pre-Paid without an issue.

  • I’ve ported my number to amaysim today. Will it work if I go into JB this afternoon and do a sign up?

    • Should not, they do have a 30 day away from Telstra clause. If it's not enforced, lemme know the store and I'll pay them a visit too ;)

  • i tried porting out from Lebara prepaid to Telstra today.

I signed up over 2 hours ago and it's still not complete.

JB Hifi would not give me the gift card and said i'd have ot come back once porting is completed.

I contacted Lebara and they have no record of my port out request.

  • Wait, so could I get the 24 month deal with $500 off a phone + the gift card and still get out of the contract?

    • +1

      yes but you'd pay fees.

If you get a device then you have to pay the handset costs if you want to exit.

The key deal here is for the $65 BYO plan for 12 months. Get $400 gift card, change to $50 new plan for free, cancel plan before end of month, score the $400 gift card for $50.

      • +1

yes loophole being closed. Telstra & JB just can't give a way $350 for free to anyone.

        • It's it closed already?

I am halfway through the port. Should I be looking to stop it?

          • +1

@edrift: You should. Its a loophole. How many thousands of dollars they losing already?

            • @[Deactivated]: Any basis behind your claim or just assumptions?

              • @edrift: T&C: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/Global/Categories/Phones/brand-pag…

                $390 ETC

What happens if I cancel my plan early?
You’ll need to pay an Early Termination Charge if you cancel
your plan early plus any remaining handset and accessory
payments. The maximum Early Termination Charge for your
plan is set out in the above table. You will also need to pay a
Phone Credit Cancellation Fee if you received a Phone Credit
Amount at sign up. The Maximum Phone Credit Cancellation
Fee is set out in the Plan Cost table.

                • @[Deactivated]: it always said that from my understanding.

                  • @edrift: too good to be true, but risky. Are you still on the process of setting this up?

                    • @[Deactivated]: Yes going to take a gamble based on no ozbargainer reporting being rejected yet

            • @[Deactivated]: Agreed, it's basically theft. Which is a prety dicky move even going by ozbargainer standards

      • Ah thanks for clearing that up. So they make you pay the full handset price including the $500 discount? Sounds lame!

        • +1

Yes. With a handset or with $500 phone credit is different to the byo plan with gift card.

They have unique plan t&C for each.
The gift card is not mentioned in the contract but the phone credit is

  • Has anyone been successful today changing their plan to a month to month? Tried 2 so far and they keep noticing that it is JB Hi-Fi and my account says I was given a free gift.

So far I have been offered to change plans: pay 2 months in advance to change from both or pay a month's worth before changing.

    • Signed up this morning, just successfully moved to the $60 plan via chat - they confirmed the ETC will be waived as I'm moving to an eligible plan.
Order has been processed, just waiting to see if it all goes through as discussed. I always have the chat transcript to fall back on.

Im not planning on canceling the $50 plan anyways - its just a better suited plan.

      • All just went through and is reporting correctly on the 24/7 app (Medium plan - Out of Contract)

      • How did you ask for it? Like how did you word it in terms of changing plans, I didn't have a reason except saying it was the better plan for me

        • I didn't even give a reason.

"Hi $name, I have a new service that I want to move onto one of these new month-month plans ($60 Medium). It was a new port in, so if there is also any port in credit I'm eligible for, please apply that also."

They took my Id details, confirmed that the ETC would be waived as they are wanting everyone to experience the new plans.

I didn't get the $10 port in credit, which is fine - I still got the "Upgrade".

The key for me on this stuff is not to front load the conversation with too much detail; you want to come across like a normi.
Let them take you on the CSR journey :)

          • @snaggot: Awesome, you are a star, thanks, going to try again now!

          • @snaggot: This one gave me about pro-rata fees that I had to pay $56 to change plans, much better but still a shame. Gotta keep trying

            • @cortex21: You got caught mate, its a loophole anyway, some got lucky, some don't.

            • @cortex21: I guess the reason is because JB employee leave a note to Telstra saying that you got a free gift, hence they don't want you to just bail your plan for free. Which JB store did you sign up?

      • How long did it take to be reflected on your account? Did you get any email confirmation and if so, when?

I spoke to 2 reps on chat and they both said they moved me to the $50 plan, but my account hasn't updated not have I any email confirmation.

I did this over 5 hours ago the first time, then maybe about 3 hours ago the second time

    • Yep I was successful in moving from the $45 for 12 months plan (including $200 JB gift card) to the $50 month to month plan. I did it at about 9am this morning. They waived the $276 ETC and moved me to the month to month plan.
They said the $10 port in bonus finished last month.

      • Did your Telstra app or portal update with the new plan details yet?
Did you get any email confirmation?

I swapped earlier today but didn't get an email confirmation note do I see it updated in my account.

I am trying to get the port in credit now

        • +1

Yep I got email confirmation at 12:02pm. Chat ended at 10:35am.

          • +1

@jenki: Woot my patience paid off.
Converted to $50 plan plus got my on going monthly $10 discount/credit too!

            Happy days

  • +1

There will be same deal tomorrow as well but with $300 GC instead of $400 GC.

  • I'm on $45/pm from previous 12 month JB plan. I want to exit but there I still have $90 on to go (Oct). Is it possible to upgrade to the new plan, then port out? This would be cheaper than the ECT!

    • Try Telstra web chat and let us know how you go :)

      • +1

Yep worked. Switched to month to month and waived ETC. Now the deal has expired though so can't test that. Found a $10 30gb amaysim Sim to port to and wait out the 30 days. Hopefully good deals then.

  • Just spoke to the rep. They said it can be moved to month to month and ETC can be waived. But the gift card amount of $400 will be charged on next bill. Not sure if that was BS or not but did not want to risk it.

    • I signed and changed month to month this weekend. Rep said jb may not issue the gift card if I have not got it yet. I got it in person so should not be a problem

  • Hi guys

I just received a bill from Telstra for $390 ETC 🤯

I plan on fighting this, could anyone please help me, with copies of transcripts or anything that can help me get out of this huge bill.

    Thanks

    • I never had this problem.

The plan upgrade clearly showed a etc waiver.
Check your email or order details.

If you go to Track Order on the website and look up your order number for the plan upgrade it should say:
      Add Plan Contract Cancellation Waiver
