Buying a Used Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Help Needed

Hi guys I am looking to buy a used Note 9. Can you please let me know what things I should be checking for. I read somewhere that Note 9 processor had lot of issues. Was it the Snapdragon version or the Exonys? The phone I am trying to buy comes eitb Exonys processor.

Also, if I don't get a tax invoice would I still be able to get warranty services from Samsung Australia if the phone was bought from a legitimate Australian seller? Thanks in advance.

  • You need invoice for warranty claim. Apple, no need

  • Exynos was reported slower than Snapdragon

  • If the phone is sourced from Australia (Samsung-Australia, Telstra, Optus, Vodafone) then it will be registered for warranty. You shouldn't have issues. I think most of the Samsung phones are set for 2-year warranty in Australia, but they will try to lie and get out of their obligations.

So, it really depends where the phone is sourced from (could be Grey Market). And if you have the Invoice Paper, or the Phone Contract with IMEI, you won't have a problem.

The Exynos 9810 version is significantly slower AND uses more battery than the Snapdragon 845 version. You should look at the 2018 Exynos 9810 as basically the same as the 2017 Snapdragon 835 chipset, which itself was marginally better than the Exynos 8895 and Exynos 8890. Unfortunately, all the Australian stock have the Exynos version. With that said, if you are looking into getting root access, or Custom Mods, or Custom Roms, you don't have any choice but to go with the Exynos devices as they have the unlockable bootloader.

    My suggestion:
If you're thinking of getting the Exynos version for warranty, you're better off getting a Brand New LG V30 instead. It's very comparable to it, and cheaper, and has hardware/warranty support. But software support is lacking, but there are Custom Rom options if you ever feel interested.

Or you want something better, then get another device that has a QSD 845 or QSD 855 chipset and warranty. Like a Pixel 3XL, Razer Phone 2, Mate 20 Pro, Huawei P30 Pro, or the Samsung S10-variants… but they're gonna be more expensive. Or you could look into the Grey Market, there's a lot of affordable options like the Redmi PocoPhone F1, which is cheap enough that you can buy x2-x5 of them for the same price as just x1 of the newer flagships, thus, you can look at its warranty from that perspective (it's cheap enough to be replaced/disposable).

  • Samsung want invoice reciept in your name not like Apple not needed.
