Hey all, looking to upgrade my monitor and was looking for opinions on which type monitor to upgrade to. I primarily do video editing/animation with a bit of casual gaming on the side. My dilemma is picking an ultrawide vs 16:9 display, as well as the different resolutions and sizes. Freesync is not a priority for me as I do not game competitively however would still be nice to have. I have looked at both 29' and 35' ultrawide monitors, in particular the LG 29WK500-P and the kogan 35' inch, both at 2560 x 1080. My main concern is the display res, with 1080p not being high resolution enough at those large sizes. I have looked at the smaller LG 25UM58-P but I have heard that 25' is too small for an ultrawide. I am also considering buying a 32 inch 1440p monitor off ebay, with my options being the Viewsonic Ultra-Slim VX3276 or the AOC 32" Q3279VWFD8. If any of you have used these particular monitors I am keen to hear feedback and thoughts on the resolution and size and how it affects your usage. My budget is sub $500 and the cheaper the better as I am an Ozbargainer. Cheers!
29" or 35" Ultrawide @ 1080p Vs 32" @ 1440p Monitor

don't go 25"/ 29" for 21:9 .. too short vertically
32" - 16:9 is good but you'll benefit from 21:9 for video editing but color accuracy is another thing to consider
looks appealing however there are some negative reviews concerning backlight bleed and poor colours which are significant drawbacks
I have the LG 29WK500-P and am very happy with it, essentially just for gaming though. Be aware it only has HDMI inputs so no NVIDIA/ Freesync if that's a consideration for yourself.
It can do freesync over HDMI no problem. I have 2 of them.
on nvidia gpu ?
On Radeon 285 and up GPUs at least. Unsure about Nvidia products.
That deal posted by phunkydude is perfect, you could also find a Samsung S34J550W for around 500. You definitely don't want 1080, and you definitely don't want a normal 16:9 screen when video editing. 1440 gives you the clarity and screen space and the ultrawide gives you physical space beside the editing program to have open folders etc without having to switch windows all the time.
I am currently using a dual monitor setup, and I am leaning towards this setup as this means I can dedicate a whole screen to different applications/windows. I would love a 1440p ultrawide however they are a bit out of budget. Do you reckon 1080p ultrawide good enough?
VSR or equivalent on NVIDIA solves this issue for me. 1080p is fine imo.
If you are doing productivity work, I would definitely go larger than 29" though.
What graphics card do you have
