Merino Wool Quilts (Australian Made) from $47.20 Delivered @ Linen Dreams eBay

PILOT

I got the 500gsm last deal and it's been fantastic. Amazing quality and very warm!

From the last deal:

Australian Made Merino Woollen Quilts

Weight ratings: 200GSM, 350GSM, 500GSM and 700GSM (grams/square metre).

Sizes: Cot/Cotbed, Single, King Single, Double, Queen, King and Super King.

So a typical Queen 700GSM (their warmest) comes out at $78.40 delivered.

These are DRY-CLEAN ONLY. They do sell machine-washable quilts where the Merino Wool goes through an additional process whereby the wool is pre-shrunk then coated in a light layer of resin to prevent shrinkage (so they're more expensive). In my area dry-cleaning for a Queen-sized woollen quilt hits around $60.00.

  • cant find super kings?
edit:looks like they are only in the dry clean only variety

    • If you send them a message they might customise and make you one

I got a 200gsm washable made for me on a previous deal that wasn't in the listing - They asked me to include it in the notes and got it made by the factory. Delivery was still quick

      • Wow, they take special order. How much do you paid?

        • +1

I paid the same as a 300gsm, but at that price it was still cheap

  • Got a king single off them but have found it hard to find a cover for it in that size, anyone have suggestions?

In my area dry-cleaning for a Queen-sized woollen quilt hits around $60.00.

Considering that you would at least need to wash or clean the new woollen quilt upfront before putting it to your bed, and then likely once every year, doesn’t it make sense to pay extra for the washable version? You would get back the money literally the first day. Not sure if I missed something but I never understand why the dry clean only version seems to be more popular here.

I bought a washable 700gsm king quilt the last time it was on sale after doing the math on the envelope. Spent $8 for a normal wash (the quilt is too big for my washing machine) and have been very happy with it so far.

Why would you need to wash or clean the quilt before putting on your bed?
You unpack it, put it in a cover and put it on your bed. No need to clean at all.
But yes, when the time comes to clean it - after a year or so - the benefit of having a machine washable version is obvious.

  • Was actually looking at these only a few nights ago.

Anyone that has one of these what is a good GSM rating to go for an all year round quilt? Leaning toward the 350 or 500.

    • 500 is warm enough for me for winter. I would go for 350 for all year round.

      • Thanks! Just had a look what my current one is and it says 'Dacron' so I imagine this would be a decent upgrade.

I would never buy a machine washable quilt - the dry clean ones feel and smell better.

All you need to do to keep the quilt fresh is to air it in the sun for a day or so before the first use, and then air it for a couple of days at the start of winter and again before putting into storage at the end of winter.

Dry cleaning only becomes relevant if you spill something on it.

I have just donated my 8 year old quilt to Lifeline, and it was still in perfect condition - I just needed a heavier one.

    • Good point. Will keep it in mind the next time I need to purchase another one.

      • A washable one for kids isn't a bad idea.

Don’t wash, just air once a season.

  • I had an experience with a non-washable one few years back. I washed it then put it in the dryer. From a queen-size it shrank almost to a single.

The next one I bought was also non-washable but after the wash, I hanged it to dry out in the sun and it retained its size. I wash it each year at the beginning of winter, dry it in the same manner and it's in a good shape after ~4 years.

    • Do we need to reduce the speed in the drying cycle?

  • Which weight is best?

    • +1

I would say 350 if you want to use it all year round.

    • Depends on your height and body shape.

      • I'd add age, weight and sweat level in as well.

  • Bought 700gsm last time. Found it too hot to use even in SA Winter. 500g would be fine though.

    • I've got a duck 250g down and 350g. Used to love the full 600 all year round plus hoodie and pants in winter, now after manopause 250gsm is perfect all year round nud. Adelol represent.
