Looking for a 32GB 6S for my son.
I want to get a brand new one, for warranty and battery peace of mind.
I see they are $429 thru JB and AusPost, and maybe other places.
Any OzB tips on getting one of these for the absolute minimum? I could use Entertainment Book 5% off at JB for example.

Because it will be perfectly fine for everything a 12 yo will do with it. He currently uses his mum's old SE with no SIM, and is happy with everything it does.
You'd push up to a 7, sure, but I'm not spending ~$700 on a phone for a child!

Why do you want a 6S? A phone released in 2015?
I'd push up to a 7. It will get an extra year of software upgrades and it has a better camera.
