90cm Cook Tops with Small Bench Cut Outs

This is an oddly specific request, and something that's been hard to search for online. Hopefully there's some feedback here.

We are replacing our gas cook top to electric, as it's the only gas connection in our house and natural gas is costing $75/quarter just to have connected. On top of that, our cook top is outdated and ugly.

The problem is in the cut out in our stone bench top. Whilst the top of our cook top is just about standard (860mmx500m), the cut out in the stone is small (824mmx473mm). This is making it hard to buy standard 90cm cook tops, which are usually 90cmx50cm, with cut outs of about 88cmx48cm.

We've rang a stone mason to inquire about cutting our stone to make the cut out larger, and he said he basically wanted nothing to do with it - as up until a few months ago, he would've been allowed to 'dry cut' it, but now must 'wet cut' stone, and it'd ruin our floors, cupboards, everything around it. Basically, not happening.

So now we're stuck searching for a 90cm electric cook top, with a cut out that fits 824mmx473mm. The cut out can be smaller if possible, as we can pack it out. However, it can't be bigger.

After some search tips, or any cook top that'd fit that anyone knows about.

As far as we're concerned, there's no alternative to not doing this. We aren't keeping gas. We've found one single cook top that fits (Beko brand), but before we pull the trigger, we'd like to know if there are more options.

Price… Anything below $2500.

TIA!!

Keep looking for stonemason don’t open the box until he arrives
Incase you need to return it.
It’s not a hard job if you have the skills, it’s the recent mesothelioma laws which would be stopping him.
Try airtasker or gumtree or ring local joinery shop and explain situation and offer a cash offer to remedy issue I’m sure they would know someone who needs a carton of beer

    • You would spend $2500 to save $75 per quarter?

Edit: sorry not meant to be a reply

  • I can't find anything. Just buy the Beko if you want an easy solution.

  • why doesnt he come out & remove the benchtop, take it back to his workshop (or even ur backyard), cut it, then bring it back. Yes its a bit more work & a bit more expensive, but it solves ur issue

That was what I was wondering, unless it is all glued in place?

    • Stone benchtops are glued in place and usually the splashback is installed after the benchtop. Add in the sink & plumbing (probably) and the job becomes mammoth.

I'm with elgrande. $2500+ to save $300/yr is 8yrs payback. Not worth it.

OP: why are you paying $75 supply charge? Energy Australia charge for Griffith is 53.9c/day x 90 = $48.60. Usage is a flat 2.86c/Mj

Maybe you just need a better plan not a better cooktop.
