    • Cheers, will update

  • Cheers OP also check your emails for a $10 unique voucher code (min $49 order subtotal) for use with the app if you haven't used the Amazon app to purchase anything (received yesterday). With that assuming you are a Prime member you can purchase a couple of these for $24 delivered.

  • How is this $17? It comes up as $29 for me.

    • +1

      It’s a prime day deal.
If you are a prime member it will say “your price is $17” under the $29 price.
And discount will be applied at checkout.

      • do I have to have a minimum spend?

        • +2

Prime members don’t have minimum spend on amazon au.
The minimum spend is for non prime members to qualify for free shipping.
This is a prime day deal so only prime members qualify for the savings.

        • +2

You can start a 30 day Prime trial to get these deals. Most of the Amazon deals you see posted over the next two days are probably going to require a Prime subscription.

          • @bamzero: How much is Amazon prime

            • @AlienC: https://www.amazon.com.au/prime

              After 30 day trial, $6.99/month or $59/year.

              • @bamzero: I think one month would have been worth it for this deal alone.

Normally I try get above $49 to get free non prime delivery anyways so really just after Amazon prime specific deals and not so much the delivery but man no minimum spend prime delivery sounds nice but not $5/month nice aka $59/12 months = ~$5/month

  • Thanks, these were om my shopping list

  • Do these require a static IP on your wan for remote access? My home internet is 4g only with no option for static IP. Not sure how the app gets past the firewall?

    • +2

No, it relies on the TP-Link cloud service.

      • Is this free or is this extra?

        • Free

        • +1

Free. When you add the device to the app, you can choose whether to enable cloud control or keep it local.

Unfortunately there's no easy way to control it outside of the local network without the cloud. Even if you VPN in to your home network, because you're not on the same wifi it won't consider it a local device.

  • Anyone In Sydney CBD or eastern suburbs, who has Prime membership, wants to buy one spare HS110 for me? I can pick up and pay cash.

  • Is the energy monitoring useful for anything in particular?

    • +3

Maybe not permanently unless you're using it with Home Assistant to trigger something.

Can be useful every now and again though, say you want to know what power draw you have for a UPS.

As well as instantaneous power usage it also keeps track of the total for the day, and last 7 and 30 days.

Sometimes it's handy to know how much a device that cycles on and off actually uses in a day. Probably more a curiosity thing though.

    • I'm getting one for our spa, should be interesting, want to tailor it to turn on during day when solar on or trigger it to turn on with Alexa.

    • For me I'm curious what my bedroom power draw is since everything comes out of one socket and I usually leave my pc on standby while I sleep most nights.

But also want to measure the fridge and maybe washing machine as they are both very old so might show they need to be updated.

Other than that might honestly measure the kitchen as we have the rice cooker, microwave, toaster and kettle on two separate sockets but one has an extension power board which gets a blender, grinder and now air fryer connected some days.

So yeah some interesting use case scenarios for me but mainly I just want to check if we need to upgrade to more efficient appliances and my current pc power draw.

  • I'm a Prime member and on checkout see $19 - have they put the price up?

    • For some reason it's defaulting to 3rd party seller now.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/offer-listing/B017X72J5Q/ref=dp…

Add the $29 one from Amazon to cart from this list and you'll get $17 at checkout.

(Nevermind, is back to Amazons listing by default now)

      • I deleted and visited the product page again - its now being shipped by Amazon

    • can you use two of these side by side in a socket?

    • can the light at the top be disabled?

    • answering my own question on the first one - clearly not

      • No to both I think

      • +3

        10-4 that's a no to both.

If you dont want energy monitoring, the Bunnings Brilliant plugs at $15 are a lot slimmer and have a better app that supports way more devices.

        • great, thank you sir

        • USB port too for that matter.

Have to agree, without energy monitoring there are better options.

I seem to remember there was a multipack of no name switches with energy monitoring that were priced pretty well on Amazon a little while back too, much smaller than the TP-Links (not trying to bring down my own deal of course) :)

  • +1

    • Pick Amazon as the vendor first by clicking "19 new" link first…..

    • Yep looks like HS100 is sold out. Now showing listings from 3rd party sellers only

      • True, HS100 is gone now….
