What is better about this over the non premium model that the good guys has for sale for $179 including the bonus stainless bowl as a bonus?
I just purchased but may refund for this
two internal bowls, non-stick and steel
You get the bonus stainless bowl with the good guys deal though and $20 store credit for click and collect.
Curious to know if the actually machine is better
@asa79: The 2237 from Good guys has higher power (1300W vs 1000W) plus a ceremic coating instead of the standard non stick one. I think that one is a newer generation model.
@WantToPayLess: Its too hard to work out they so similar
Costco usually has this one as their standard
Minor cautions on these, that I didn't know beforehand.
I own the previous model, and had bought it when the product was relatively new to market, to replace my old slow cooker which after 15 years finally gave up. I use it a couple times a month during the cold weather to make chili, because the pressure cooking function allows the spice to infuse into the meat faster, so that I only need to slow cook it for about 2 hours afterward.
These don't reduce stock (so that it thickens) like slow cookers normally do. So my chili ends up as brothi unless I drain my tins of tomatoes and use tomato paste instead. Apparently SOME of the Philips all-in-ones have the ability through a "reduce" button or setting; people have talked about it online, so I'm not the only person who's noticed it. Mine doesn't, and I don't see that this one does, however.
Additionally, true pressure cooking fanatics don't find that the PSI gets up high enough to suit them, on most of these electric pressure cookers. Before you buy one, research the max PSI pressure it can achieve and verify that it's enough for your use.
Would I still have bought mine had I known this? Yes, because at the time, there weren't a lot of these on the market and there might not have been others that had the missing capabilities. Today, I would buy one that is documented to achieve a higher PSI and which can reduce stocks and stews.
Is there any that would be better then this?
I think the new dark grey, square-ish Philips has the "reduce" mode.
70 kPa seems to be the max manual pressure capability of the Philips Premium Collection 6L .. Had a quick look at the online product Manual: it does have the 'Sauce Thickening' function… but ouch its also way more expensive
This slow cooker is becoming harder to source. Great price given now only Amazon sells it from the main retailers. Stainless steel pot is the winner.
