[Solved] How to Find The Price? (Colesworth Item)

Hi there,

This is probably a strange question but… if they can't find a barcode on an item you want to buy and there's none like it left in the designated aisle for that item, can you still buy it? At what price? The item is an insulated travel mug.

Cheers,
JJB

Yep, if they are helpful they can offer it to you.

At coles its called 'category price', where they put it under a catagory and manually enter the price.

At woolies I believe they call it disection dump, but is the same thing.. enter a catagory code and enter price.

Edit: assumes the price is agreed on between you and store

The full story is that my wife couldn't find the barcode and the self-serve attendant sent someone to look for the price and they couldn't find any similar-looking travel mug in the store. My toddler got a bit upset at the thought that they might have to leave ,what he was already calling, "Dada's cup" behind and they gave it to him.

It's only when they got home , that my wife realised that there was no manual pricing and that the item didn't appear at all on the receipt. Were they supposed to do that? Is the attendant and the other staff going to get in trouble for what really is helping and abetting a toddler into stealing a travel mug?😕

It is our local woolies store.Would hate for things to be awkward next time we go there.

Some times we get items that are non standard lines. These are mostly seasonal items that are not stocked permanently. It's hard to find the price when the items are discontinued. Also probably you were being rare to find these days a nice customer and they gave it to you for free. When I work my general rule is if the customer is nice we'll always try to go above and beyond to help out even if it means not going by the book.

I think the staff who were looking after your family were figuring out how to best help their customers and keep things running smoothly in the store. My theory is that they could see your wife was buying other items and that the store had already made their profit. In this situation they decided that the best way to clear the item out of the store was to give it to your son. Stores will go to great lengths sometimes to clear out the stock at the end of a seasonal promotion. It's a way to create goodwill between the store and the customer as a way of hoping you'll keep coming back.

Ah! But you forget that my wife was the original ozbargainer in the family….Dunno, how much profit our local woolies has made off her ;)

Edit: I've found the product on their website, it's on special for $5 and says:

This item is currently out of stock at the store that services your location.

Perhaps they only had limited stock and someone forgot to put up the shelf ticket?

Edit 2: My mug is a light burgundy in colour with a metallic sheen and looks quite expensive and is not shown on woolies website.

@[Deactivated]: It looks like a very useful and effective product. It would be great for both hot drinks in winter and using ice to keep drinks cold in summer. Good find.

I don't know how much profit my woolies makes with me. It looks like I'm spending a lot but when you factor in discounted gift cards all of the time, and targeted offers most of the time I'm there I wonder if they make any money at all. The staff wouldn't be able to recognise all your hidden savings in the basket.

Your toddler could have some effect in this! Kind of like the Mum Birthday Cadbury advert where the little girl paid with buttons, ring and toy unicorn for a chocolate block. Kids have a way of eliciting kindness from people … a good thing to see, really :-)

Sometimes they'll look for a shelf ticket but for shelves that have multiple items in the same spot it probably won't work.

If it's a short term promotional item there may be a master list for all the products that came in for that promotion.

I have seen special deals for clearance items but I'm not sure what would apply in your situation.
