Google Contractors Are Listening to Your Assistant Recordings

Google contractors are secretly listening to your Assistant recordings

Interesting read.

"VRT, with the help of a whistleblower, was able to listen to some of these clips and subsequently heard enough to discern the addresses of several Dutch and Belgian people using Google Home — in spite of the fact some hadn’t even uttered the words “Hey Google,” which are supposed to be the device’s listening trigger."

"the recordings presented to them are meant to be carefully annotated, with notes included about the speakers presumed identity and age. From the sound of the report, these transcribers have heard just about everything. Personal information? Bedroom activities? Domestic violence? Yes, yes, and yes."

If you're surprised at this, then you're exactly the type of person who shouldn't be used this tech.

What about bixby ? I'm very hesitant to give it all the permissions its requesting to unlock all the features

    • It's Android and it's a preloaded app… it can do whatever it wants without your permissions.

It's a samsung app and it doesn't update through the play store which is a massive red flag. No way I would ever use it.

Interesting. How do I apply for a job there? Maybe I should ask my google home mini.

    • just talk to your google home mini.
someone on the other side will soon answer.

  • Could be different for others but all I have to say is "Who cares"

So … we don't permit our law enforcement investigators to listen/tap to national security threats except in exceptional circumstances.

We don't allow our law enforcement to wiretap/warrant/etc when they suspect someone broke into your house and threatened your misssus with an axe, you need a warrant + affidavits + evidence + whatever.

yet this is ok. I think the world is skewed.

All going to plan. strokes cat

    • Oh, but now law enforcement has arrangements like this to nicely slide around those nasty laws.

      • yeah, not in Aus.

        • True. But if I remember the more detailed description of the arrangement with Ring, it was all superficially voluntary.

The home owners got a free Ring device in exchange for consenting to let Ring share the data with the cops.

IANAL, but I can't imagine that the same wouldn't fly in Australia.
