Which Tablet to Get for Productivity?

Hello friends,

I am planning to start studying again in a couple of months and don't have a laptop/device.

The course involves learning a new language and as a result, I will not need to type much (hence why I don't think a laptop is necessary).

The rest of the course will be in that language and will be heavy with reading (so really need something light) and any assessment will most likely need to be handwritten.

I do little to no gaming and watch a lot of stuff (so nice screen is a plus).

I am considering the following:
- Samsung Tab S6 (hoping it comes out sometime next month - if not then the tab S4)
- Surface pro
- iPad pro (last choice as I have never owned an iOS device)

Any other suggestions would b nice or any experience with the above in productivity. Also budget is less than 2k)

Pls don't recommend laptop because I do read a lot and after a hour of holding a book my hands get tired.

Thanks in advance, friends.

Can I suggest Samsung Galaxy Book 1 because:
    1. It's Windows and we know Windows = Office = Productivity
    2. It's got tablet form factor so not a laptop. It's in fact 2-in-1.
    3. It can be had for $1,300 for 4G + 256Gb i5 (last year gen though) which is about the same price as Ipad Pro which is locked to Apple Ecosystem

It can be charged with powerbank despite a Windows computer/tablet.

I have it and it's awesome!

    • Thanks for the suggestion, I'm having a look at it now. I definitely do like Samsungs but I've never heard of the Galaxy book.

  • A second hand iPad. No need to get a pro if all you're doing is reading on it. I use the kindle for iPad app on my first generation iPad just fine, and I can email myself pdf files outside the kindle system to read in the inbuilt books app. You could probably get one for like $50. Why spend $2000 when you won't be using any of the features that cost that money, what a waste. Plus the battery lasts forever, I only charge it about every month or two months and read on it a few times a week and it is on standby the rest of the time. Screen is great for watching video or surfing the net.

Or even better, if you only want to read books, and don't want to listen to music or watch videos get an actual kindle. Battery will last longer and will be better on your eyes and be lighter to hold than any tablet.

    • Yes I was considering just a multimedia tablet like s5e but when the time comes where I will need to write an essay l, I'll be in trouble.

I forgot to say I will be going overseas for this course so no computer either.

But thank you for your suggestion

      • If you need to write an essay get a laptop.

If you just need to consume media get a cheap tablet.

That's all there really is to it.

Actually now that I think about it I would recommend a Chromebook - very very light for a laptop, but you can still type on it. It basically strips out all the laptop functions you don't need and strips the price along with it. The only issue is if you have an extended period with no WiFi as the included storage is very small (but you can probably use an SD card to get some temporary extra storage if needed).

if they need wifi they can hotspot it to their phone or get a pocket modem

they could probably still read books without wifi

Which Tablet to Get for Productivity?

    Berocca

    • This.
It's much more effective than an Apple, or looking at Windows like an Android.

Get a macbook air, but by the looks of it ou have <1k in funds

I would then suggest yellow pad paper.

  • You can try for HP laptop. I have already bought a new one. Looks good and serve well.
