Car below $33,000 for Tax

Hi guys,

I am looking for a good sedan or suv below 33,000 to claim off as tax. What would anyone suggest?

Cheers!

Edit:

I really have no clue! I have never bought a car before!

I was gunning for the Camry Hybrid but the waiting period is too long.

I have narrowed down to Tucson Active X with Safety Features for 33,770 or Subaru Forester 2.5i 34,000 or Nissan X Trail STI L 33,000 after the current bonus!

What do you guys think? Is 2wd Drive ok for SUVS or is 4x4 important on Melbourne roads?

    Holden Gemini Diesel

  • Camry or RAV4.

    • I went to visit today. 6 Months waiting period for the hybrid otherwise its a heavy car!

      Thanks :)

Something with good reliability, and one that holds its value for longer.
Japanese Toyota/Mazda, or Korean Hyundai, seems like the best fit for this scenario.

    • Yes I am looking at those options at the moment.

Just seeing what subaru can offer.

mercedes (high yield investment) don't worry about the tax. ;)

You're not going to get a good car for under $33k. You can get a rubbish car though, for sure.

      Quoting for comedic value.

Let me rephrase, he’s not going to get a good new car for $33k. You could certainly get a decent second hand one for that money.

@cathole: It’s ok, @burner likes to humblebrag about her Tesla or two, so anything less than $150k to them would be considered a plebeians wagon.

@pegaxs: That's some creepy stalking there fella. And nice of you to use a female pronoun in a pejorative way. Do you think women are lesser than men? Because that's pretty (profanity) up. It's quite clear from my posts (and you'd know this with your stalking, goings years back), that I'm a man.

              • +3

@[Deactivated]: I also used the pronoun “them”. Gonna get all offended over that one as well? And I had a 1 in 37 chance of getting your preferred gender pronoun correct. Had to pick something…

And from your posts, I genuinely thought you were a woman (you had mentioned you were a teacher at some stage (??? I could be wrong, I really don’t take that much notice of you) and not many teachers I know can afford a Tesla, let alone multiple Teslas, unless their husband was paying for them. Oh, and the fact that about 80+% of teachers are female.).

And how did you get that I think women are lesser than men? If only there was a logical fallacy for “making shit up out of thin air to try and degrade the other persons point of view…”

And by the amount of offence it has caused, the only one here that seems to be offended by being called a lady, as if it’s some kind of slur, is you. So maybe it’s you who thinks that women are lesser beings if being called one is so offensive to you.

And I don’t stalk you. You’re not that interesting. I just tend to notice the people who are usually wrong and who collect neg votes en-masse.

And here again, you are wrong. Just because your tastes lay in the upper $200,000 vehicle bracket, does not mean that there are *no good cars under $30k”.

I know it pains you to live in a world where people don’t earn $250,000+ per year, and how dare they breathe the same air as you, but once in a while, you need to leave your mansion in Toorak and go out and drive among the common folk. I know that will make your skin crawl, but they really aren’t that bad. And some of these “working” folk are really frugal with their money and are able to buy a really nice new car from working hard and spending sub $30,000 on it. Not all of us have trust funds or wealthy parents to rely on.

Ok, so I can’t buy a sub $30k Mercedes Benz S class, but saying that there are “no good cars” in this price bracket, just shows how out of touch your automotive industry knowledge is.

The problem is not that there aren’t any good cars under $30k, is the fact that there is just too many great options to pick from… (yeah, sorry, still no BMW, Mercedes Benz, Audi, Maybach, Rolls Royce, etc… but there is Skoda and VW, which are kind like Audi…)

Anyway, you’re not worth it. I took you off my blocked list, but I guess you can just go right back on it.

@pegaxs: Wow, you really are stalking me, this is crazy. And do t try and deflect that you used the pronoun her in an attempt to belittle me. I’ve never stayed my profession, never said where I live. You’re making a lot of assumptions, and your behaviour here is straight out of serial killer 101.

                  • +3

@[Deactivated]: It's not stalking when those posts are in the public domain, nice try though. Who claims you can't get a good car for 33K? Someone who has no idea about cars.

@smartazz104: It’s certainly cyberstalking in he’s trolling back through my years old posts. Creepy as hell.

@[Deactivated]: This is what happens when people make outlandish claims like you have; someone will try and find something to throw back at you.

                        • @smartazz104: True, but digging through posts from years ago is just super creepy. Guy has a chip on his shoulder, that's quite clear, but trying to make it personal is beyond the realm of normality.

I didn't deflect. With how wrong you are about and definite lack of knowledge about cars and your entitled attitude and your possibly mentioned profession, you gave me all the indications you were female.

                            It’s certainly cyberstalking

Hahaha… right. I'm not being abusive. I'm not sending you private messages. I'm not going onto every other thread you post to and make comments. You have been on my "hidden" list for about a year. So, until recently where I cleared a few people off, I haven't read a thing you have expressed.

he’s trolling back through my years old posts
digging through posts from years ago

Drama much? It was from April last year. And it was hardly a dig to find it since I also commented on that same post. And it was one reference.

Guy has a chip on his shoulder

I don't. You are just always that wrong. You live in denial and think that everything you offer on this forum is correct and it isn't. Even when confronted by overwhelming evidence to contradict your erroneous claims, you still stick to your guns. You make outlandish comments that garner neg votes like flies to turds and get all indignant when others prove you wrong or take an opposing opinion.

The only one making it personal here, is you. You are the one that has gotten all bent out of shape and making outlandish claims of cyberstalking and how upset you are at being mis-gendered. I'm merely pointing out that you have a propensity to misrepesent the truth and your opinion on anything automotive is worthless.

The only troll here is the one who is offering up the information that there are "no good cars under $30k" and not backing it up with reason as to why there are no good cars in that price bracket… Silly, off the cuff inflammatory commentary that added nothing to what OP was asking about. That is what trolling is…

So, please, enlighten us… why are there no good cars under $30,000 that OP could buy? And as an alternative, what do you suggest OP buy in the way of a new car?

@pegaxs: You are too invested in this pal. Get over me. Stop stalking me.

                                    I, and others, have asked;

what do you suggest OP buy in the way of a new car?

Sooo…? You gonna answer the questions or?? I'm really curious on your reasoning behind there being no good cars under $33k and why all of them are rubbish. You're not mates with the automotive journalist @jaush by any chance??

            • +5

@pegaxs: @pagaxs well spotted. I’ve never seen @burner admit to owning a car before despite his/her ‘well rounded knowledge’ on how bad various vehicles are. I’d always thought they were a teenager with an Xbox, not a Licence.

            • +3

@pegaxs: Aaahhhhh it finally comes out! I've asked xer what xhe drives many times and never had an answer. This explains the overall smugness and holier than thou attitude

Lol. Ok you can get a set of wheels, the full self driving option, red paint, and a home charger installed for that money. You won't be able to afford the car though.

      • +3

If only we could all be as cool as you. We can only dream.

  • what colour?

    • +1

      Rosso corsa.

  • Surely you have half a clue about size, performance, etc?

    • It’s either lazy question asking or OP honestly has no clue. It seems we need to work the information out to be able to give a reasonable answer.

It wouldnt take too long to add wether OP wants small, medium, large wether they prefer features, performance or economy. Wether they want a snobby badge, the cheapest or good value for money. Wether it is for a single person mostly commuting or needs to fit sports kit, the kids and a dog on the weekends. Adding this sort of info would save a lot of time for them weeding out the answers that flat out do not meet their wants.

      • Indeed.
        My suggestion:

Skoda Octavia in the highest spec the budget will allow. It's the car that does everything.

        • I really have no clue!

          • +2

@hctan: If you aren’t planning on leaving the road, driving gravel roads or go to the snow 2wd is adequate.

          • @hctan: So you want a high riding SUV.

I've had AWD and 2WD and 99% of the time 2WD is all you need.

You don't have to have bought a car before to know what you need the car for / what features you want.

Any of those cars will be fine. Buy the one you like the look of, feels comfortable to sit in and to drive.

This. If you stick to popular brands it is hard to go wrong. A brand that has been around for a kid time has been around for a long time for a reason and will have decent after sales service etc. IMO the only ones to avoid are the Chinese newcomers that are yet to prove themselves and are building using lesser quality control and cheaper parts and tech to make their brands as cheap as possible, not well built. 20-30 years ago the Koreans were the ones to avoid, but they’ve upped their game a lot.

asking on the internets will get you plenty of unfounded bias, particularly on an ‘open topic’ forum like this. Specialist forums will give you a much better idea than this one on a particular brand.

Active X is a nice drive and leather interior, but no rear air vents are not going to be great in summer for back row passengers.

The X-TRAIL is a decent spacious car but it’s way too old - the current third generation has been out since 2013.

Forester would be my pick of the three but you aren’t going to find it for 34 unless you’re ok with ex demo.

  • Kia cerato brand new 7 years warranty
    Sport plus is $25k
    Gt is $31k

Comes with all the bells and whistles with latest tech

Drive it 5-6 years and sell it with warranty remaining
