Not too long ago I was buying eggs after an already price increase at $2.80. Then those disappeared and had to buy $3 a dozen and now finally both Coles and Woolies lowest price is $3.85. If it gets any worse they’ll be more expensive than some meats

The ones near me are so free range I have to make sure I don't drive over them.

I don't know if you city folk can get Conobolos eggs where you are. They are from a place around near Orange NSW and are currently in my Woolworths $4.69 for 15 eggs. They are decent eggs, not like the cheapest supermarket eggs that crack and spew the white stuff as soon as they get put in boiling water.

That's what happens when you put cool eggs straight into boiling water, You're supposed to bring the water to boil with the eggs in it.
Not when you want to do 3 minute runny eggs with soldiers- they need to go into boiling water and timed 3 minutes from when the water comes up to the boil again. I always put the eggs on the window sill in the sun to warm up before they go in the boiling water. The cheap ones always crack- Conobolos eggs don’t.

Actually I find simply leaving the eggs in warm water while I am bringing the water to the boil is better. eggs don't crack as temp difference a lot smaller and timing the perfect soft-boiled egg is simple.

@Of Aquitaine: any egg will potentially crack when going from very cold to very hot. The eggs I use are all farm fresh. when an item is very cold and immediately immersed in something very hot the rapid expansion can cause the shell to crack, a thicker shell is not a guaranteed protection from that.

Point 2 - yeah, right. Conobolos must plug chicken vaginas with corks to hold the eggs in longer until the shell thickens.

They're more eggspensive now because a rooster broke into the chicken run, and all the eggs have turned fowl. They have to recooperate the loss somehow.

Was just doing my grocery shopping and noticed WW home brand muesli was $2.60 now $3, WW home brand rolled oats $1.20 now $1.60.
Those are just a few things I can remember of the top of my head, but yeah prices are going up :(.Pretty sure that was a joke (about the flour), but the oats is explainable: the supermarkets put the squeeze on Uncle Toby's and they responded by lowering quality. So now the "top brand" is cheaper and lower quality, home brand isn't as much of a step down so the price went up.

Not really. There has been a squeeze in global supply of oats due to declines in US production, because of more cropland being set aside there for corn and soybeans.
Pretty much all of the oats you see in the supermarket aisles are Australian grown and processed. I would defy anyone to be able to reliably tell the difference between any given brand.
@cannedhams: Before the dispute when they were taken off the shelves, Uncle Toby's never went on special (I've been buying them for years). Now they regularly appear in the weekly catalogues with 20-30% off and taste like there's bits of cardboard mixed in.

Its winter and this affects laying.
Our home chooks have only started laying again after quite a break when the temperature dropped.
Now I am not an egg farmer, only my observations.
Barns were heated so egg production is controlled when produced this way.
I think all hens are inside, unless you buy the expensive free range eggs.
In 2017 the government introduced a free range egg standard that fails consumers. The standard allows producers to pack 10,000 hens into a hectare with no mandate for hens to actually spend time outdoors
Chill. There are other price increases to worry about. An extra $1 per week is not going to break the bank.

For NSW, oats increased from $1.1 to $1.4 for 750g in Woolies, from $1.3 to $1.65 for 900g in Coles. Aldi has not taken increase action yet.

Actually, you can expect the price of many animal products to increase. For my own 10 chooks the price of a bag of feed has gone from $12.50 to $18.95 in the last 12 months. Crops have failed or not been planted.
It's called a major drought.
Many farmers have destocked significantly. The national herd of breeding cows is the lowest its been for decades.
When the drought does break, and let's hope that's soon, the price of meat will probably rise significantly. Farmers will want to keep stock in order to rebuild their herds. With no cattle for sale, the law of supply and demand will kick in.Same. I can't find much quality feed under $25/20kg bag, even at the produce agencies. My girls will gobble that up in under a week.
