Ok so Bestbuy have the pixel 3a for $199 USD. Equates to roughly $285 AUD. Even if you add $50 for shipping it is still significantly cheaper then what I have seen locally.

It's 'Activated' to Sprint, but unlocked and it can switch carriers at any time. Or so they say.
Has anyone done this before? Bestbuy state they don't ship to known forwarding services. Can you really just plug in an AU sim and it will all be fine?
Use myus or similar buying service. From my previous experience they won’t let you use Aussie credit cards

I get stuck with the activation. Best buy seem to allow a forwarding address. Then you have to log into sprint or create a new account. Need IMEI to create account with Sprint directly or existing number and account number to log in. Neither of which I have access to…
Trying to create new account prompts me to finish setting up instore with Sprint rep. This requires me to schedule a time and then log into bestbuy, but I can't seem to make an account with bestbuy.
Trying to go about instore pickup with the idea to change after to shipping requires me to sign into bestbuy, same problem creating account.
I think I would need someone in US to do it for me then send it. It does seem however (via Reddit discussion) that you can cancel plan same day with refund of all fees.
That's price on plan. Not outright
I know but according to Reddit chat you can cancel the plan straight away with no fees. That is literally what I just said in the last paragraph
