Europe - Mobile Internet

Hi, I am traveling for a 7-weeks DIY holiday starting end August, covering: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Czech republic, Luxemborg, Belgium. I visit mostly cities, and some places staying for 1-2 days only. I would rely on mobile Internet for navigation (walk & drive), train scheduling, ticket purchase, etc. on my iPhone.

Does anyone have any good recommendation for a value-for-money international roaming package, preferably something I can arrange in Australia before I leave?

Thank you for your feedback.

    • That sounds good, except it is 30 days, and need top-up to maintain its validity. Anything else that last 365 days? Because I am planning to return to Europe in May 2020 as well, and can therefore continue to use this, if possible. Thanks.

      • You could have a look if they have a long expiry option.

365 day sims aren’t really a thing in Europe. Not exactly hard to top up and could probably leave it on auto top up.

      • Yeah you just top it up for the following month online,
Then it remains active for 12 months with no credit, you can keep it alive by putting it in a phone and calling it occasionally. Then just top it up again next time. This one is also good because it includes Australia and some Asian countries that you may stop in.

  • yep the three deal is the easy option $58 to start and $54 something for the next 30 days. Else preload maps me and struggle with wifi spots but why waste precious time in a once in a life holiday?

    • Yeah to save data I just download the google map for that town on the hotel wifi before I leave for the day. Turning the auto play video off on social media sites saves a load of data as well.

To top up sim I don’t buy the credit from the sim reseller as it’s expensive
      I use https://www.mobiletopup.co.uk/three
As you can’t use the official 3uk top up site as a non resident
Also once you have the sim you can change to any of the 3 uk pre paid sim plans. You just need to add credit and choose the plan you need.

  • You could try sim2fly.
Its $126AUD for 15gb , 1 year and it covers more countries than three. I used it in Canada and Turkey which werent covered by Three.

It might be a difficult getting the sim in time for your trip, however they recently started to support eSIM if you have an eSIM phone.

On the eSIM page, it doesnt show the 1 year plan ?, so you might wanna double check that.

Three's probably a better option if ur using heaps of data tho, ~$40 for 12gb, 30 days is pretty good.

  • Thanks for the valuable feedback, it seems Three 12GB/30 days is indeed the best for value. Some of local suppliers are selling this package for just below $40 (example: www.ukprepaidsimcard.com.au). As for recharging after first 30 days, there are services to do that (www.mobiletopup.co.uk), or some supplier does that on your behalf, by basically buying the Three voucher code with their own UK issued credit card, after you pay them naturally.
