Router for Data + Voice Sim

Why not a cheap phone and hot spot?
I want mine for my elderly parents. They need to use the old phone they have had for years. It has super large buttons and does not go flat. As far as internet goes they only need it to check emails which they do on a desktop computer.
https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/3g-4g-router/tl-m… - I've got a few of those cheap ($15 ish) on eBay second hand, if you have USB LTE modems, they work to share data no problem.
Otherwise something like this should be fine https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-n300-4g-lte-modem-wireles… (yes, it has Band 28 :) )
Will the device allow voice calls to be made . As the sim will have unlimited calls
No, however OP wanted "table top modem/router to share data" - ie. no voice calls
Netgear Nighthawk M1 or M2 if you have the budget.
Thanks, just wondering the download speed variances between a router with sim slot and a router with usb dongle.
I've tested Dovado Tiny AC + USB dongle, MR3420 + USB dongle, as well as Netgear LB2120 - all identical speeds
I've bought a telstra Huawei 4gx pro (portable) that was on sale, works fine with the post paid sim except you have to charge every day..
Also interested in this. I have had no luck myself
