Apparently they're used drives 'recertified' (based on previous deal and reviews) but I thought I'd still post the deal given the price.

Edit: As can be observed in the comments here and the reviews on amazon these are likely quite dodgy, so buy with caution if at all.

These are 2nd hand drive, seem to have bad review, I'll give this one a pass.

    • Yeah I bought one last week from the same seller (amazon.com) and checked the serial number with seagate and it says-

"Please contact the place of purchase. This product was originally sold as a part of a larger system. Please contact the system manufacturer or your place of purchase for warranty support."

Not sure what that means but I can't do any other tests on the drive until my SAS cable arrives.

      • probably a disk from a NAS/SAN so might be well worn.

      • I finally got my SAS cable today and it was as I suspected, these are used drives. I checked the drives with Hard Disk Sentinel and one of the drives has-

        power on time:1271 days
        Lifetime writes:476TB

        Another drive has-
        Power on time: 1234 days
        Lifetime writes:299TB

I did a live chat with amazon today and I am going to get a refund. I have to send them back to the US but they say they will refund the postage cost.

Read reviews before purchase. (TLDR - avoid)

  • I've had a Seagate Recertifiated. It had three months warranty and was dead within three months.

Recertified drive are just refurbished faulty disks. Avoid at all costs.

  • It says new and sold by Amazon US

those bad reviews came from customers buying from 3rd party sellers (possibly shipped by Amazon US)
As long as you choose "Ships from and SOLD BY Amazon US.", it shouldn't be a problem
amazon mixes reviews from all sellers together, which is a bit confusing sometimes

    • No I bought one from amazon US (made sure it wasn't from a 3rd party seller). I got this message when checking the serial-

"Please contact the place of purchase. This product was originally sold as a part of a larger system. Please contact the system manufacturer or your place of purchase for warranty support."

      • So is it faulty?
the quote only indicates it's not registered as a retail product. Maybe amazon purchase the same model in bulk from Seagate to build their cloud system? I don't know.
But yea, not sure about its warranty. Have you tried to contact amazon us? what do they say?

        • I haven't been able to test the drive yet as I am waiting for my SAS cable to arrive. I will wait until then before contacting Amazon.

Best advice I can give is under no circumstances buy a refurbished or recertified hdd. Unless you don’t care about your data.

Pay the extra couple of dollars and buy a good drive

  • I don’t even trust normal seagate drives!
