I got an unlock code from Telstra for my Sony Experia phone and had to enter it when inserting the SIM of the 'new' telecom. I tried it with the Optus SIM from another phone - and triggered 'Unlock Successful'. Sad to say I had to return the Optus SIM to its Optus-locked phone. I have tried several VIABLE Vodafone SIMs in the Sony, but got NO SERVICE with each. Surely it is not now locked to Optus ? What might prevent the Vodafone SIMS from offering connection in the Sony ? How can I get Sony to work from a Vodafone SIM ?

What frequency bands does your Sony Experia support?
^^^ This, your phone most likely doesn't support the right bands
Do you get 3g coverage in your area ?
Phone's model number would be handy. There is a Sony Xperia E, but no such thing as a Sony Experia. :)
Check the APN settings - sony's do strange things. You should be able to google them.
penguincat - I stand corrected.
Inexplicable - temporary - things have been happening here. What did not work yesterday works now. I moved on from trying
Vodafone in Sony to a 'dedicated' application using the Viable Optus SIM.
The issue still interests me, but is of less practical importance now.karlgr90 - I do not understand APN settings
qwerty - I do get 3G here.
bdl & JimmyF - frequency bands ?
oscargamer - I'll talk to Telstra when the need arises; the UNlock is obviously effective because it is working from an Optus SIM.
Talk to Telstra again
