Is It Worth Going from a 55 Inch to a 65 Inch TV?

When I bought my 55 inch oled the 65 inch was 2 grand more expensive, and the 55 inch itself was 2500 so it seemed like a huge amount for an extra 10 inches.
I have seen they have come down a fair bit in price, but wonder if the size difference is worth the bother of selling my current one and paying the difference.

Current one is the b8 55 inch oled and I saw 65 inches are only like 3 grand now

    Yes

    • What would a fair price be to sell a lg 55 inch oled do you think?
Do you know the current best deal on 65 inch tvs ? Not interested in hiscence.

      • 55 inch oled are about $1400, someone would probably buy it at $1100-1200 if you can show its got no burn in, has receipt and not very old. The bulk of name brand 65 inch of old models are mostly sold, they got down to about $2500 and now they aren't going below about $2900, will have to wait for a new gen before they get down to that level again I think.

Source: Am watching closely as I am waiting to buy a 65" OLED when its around $2k to 2200.

    No

Looking at this comparison - I would say probably not. Personal opinion though.

    • I see, the general consensus seems to be no

    just sit closer

  • I have an 80 incher… oh we're talking about TV's?
Well in that case, its pretty small, but I get people to sit closer to it so it looks larger : )

    • +4

did you ask ppl to wear magnifying glass on bed to get 80 inch ?

      • +2

he did say ' I get people to sit closer to it so it looks larger ".

        • Plus, the audio experience is better the closer they sit.

What's wrong with your current one? Do you even want/need a new TV? Do you find yourself longing for an extra 10 inches? Or are you just wanting to buy because the prices have gone down???

    • The new prices are attractive, I always kinda wished I could have got the 65 inch

      • +5

If your room/setup is big enough and you can afford it, go for it?

But buyers remorse/regret can be a vicious cycle, especially for electronics…you might experience the same feelings in a few years and want a 75 inch? ha

        • Yeah you're right. Plus all the really good deals seem to be mistakes / over

I went straight to a 75". Best thing ever

Cant imagine giving up oled quality

      • I was using a 4yr old Samsung 50" (?) that I was minding for a friend. It started doing weird things and I didn't want it breaking while in my custody so I upgraded to a Sony 75" deal from these forums and put the samsung away.

Never had OLED so I don't miss it.

        75" TV in a 4m x 4m loungeroom is great!

…it seemed like a huge amount for an extra 10 inches.

Do you find yourself longing for an extra 10 inches?

    chuckles to self

I'm over the age of 14. I swear.

It isn't an extra 10 inches. It's an extra 39.67%.

To me, yeah, it's worth it. But that's an entirely subjective thing. If you feel that selling off your old OLED and buying a new one is too much of a pain in the ass, then no, don't do it.

Also to consider. AFAIK OLED have lower resale value than LED, simply because they age worse. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Maybe

  • Was it worth going from a 45inch to a 55inch?

  • depends on your room size/set up. I have a 55 and a 75, but the 75 didn't fit downstairs, so now we barely go on it :(

  • Called Harvey Norman and they had 1 left in my area so I just got it for 2989 saved 200 not picking it up
If I get 1400 for my 55 I'll be happy

For future reference you wouldn't think so but it's a huge difference

I couldn't go back to lcd even for a 75 plus inch

    • Happy days.

Got a grand back from tax so I'm pretty happy. After selling my old one shouldn't cost me much.

It really is 40 percent bigger. It's huge

          That's what she…

          NVM.

    • haha, that was quick!

  • Is that your 55inch on gumtree for $1400, Gold Coast.?

    • Na mines not up yet mate will be soon

    • good luck, i would be offering you $700 :)

depends how much free to air you watch, crap on a 65 -75".

    • zero.
I watch youtube / netflix and game. Only time I watch free tv is when im in doctor waiting room

  • I wish I never upgraded from a 42" to a 65". Makes free to air unwatchable.

    • +2

Free to air makes free to air unwatchable.

      • It certainly is garbage

        • Like I said with YouTube and Netflix I never feel the need for it anymore.

          • @[Deactivated]: Me either I don't even have an antenna

  • Quite a while ago had a 50 inch TV in the lounge. Got a 65 as a replacement and the first few days it did seem big but nowhere near as big as you would expect. Usually sit around 2.5 metres back. Yes it's an improvement to 65 but I think you'll be a little disappointed, unless you sit under 2 metres away from the TV. Any OLEDs that are bigger than 65 inch are an astronomical price! Another poster mentioned 40% bigger from 55 to 65. Not true at all, more in the region of 25% as you can see from his own diagram lol.

      What are you talking about.

      55" area = 121.7 x 68.6 = 8348.62 cm^2
      65" area = 144.0 x 81.0 = 11664 cm^2

      8348/11664 = 1.397, or 40% more area.

I went from 46" -> 65" (LCD -> OLED) but to be honest I thought 65" would feel bigger.

Is it worth to have a TV at all? 🤔

Back to your question, I think it is not worth the money but it depends if you can use them in a better way. I would save the money for experiences with my family because it brings me more joy then watching the TV.
