Looking at booking a flight to Tehran and looking for input about which airline is better. Similar flight times and prices for the dates I'm looking at so that doesn't really factor in.

Qatar is better, I prefer the Qatar airport as well.
As mentioned. Easy answer I've taken both to Europe. If your legs are on emirates a380 I would choose them. If not I would choose Qatar.

Emirates is the 777 (widebody)
Qatar is the A350 (widebody)
The A350 will be a much more comfortable experience compared to the older 777

Definitely the A350. Emirates cram 10 seats across on the 777 and it's awful for long flights.

I've flown both and found them to be similar. I would consider the fact that Qatar (as a nation) is hated by the other Arab countries, and their flight routes are thus restricted, and your trip might be an hour or two longer, because the plane will have to fly around some countries.
A350
Haven’t flown Qatar, but recently flown emirates in both economy and first class on their a380. I thought the economy was great. Comfortable seat, great IFE and usb and power at the seats. Food was also really good too.
