Stupid me. Just bought my mother one of the $99 Optus My tabs to use as an ereader when she goes over seas in August (UK and Italy)
Well, she took hold of it, and ran. Now she is quite keen to be able to check her email, send some SMS and make some calls……
So, I need to come up with some sort of International Phone and Data sim thingo.
Any ideas? Seems a mine field out there when I googled….

I used that link to unlock, and it gave me a code ok, but the code did not work. Ended up getting locked out and needing my puk code, and then it worked. But when I put a SIM in from over seas, will it be locked again? I definitely inputted the IME or whatever it was correctly. Checked ALOT of times :-)

I beleive you need to insert a foregin sim in there first, so grab a non optus sim card first plug that in then it will ask you for the code, put in the code you got from the website.
I think what you have done is put in the code where you put your normal sim pin code. You have to put the non-optus sim in first.

I would suggest researching the local prepaid offerings in UK and ITALY. They will likely have some very cheap deals for calls/data. I don't think you will be able to get any cheap data plans from here to use overseas though. Would purchasing prepaid data here work there? I have a feeling it won't though.
