  • Samsung tablets have a kids mode that lock them in to an environment you control. Can even have timed use per day.

    • The Lenovo Kids mode is far better.
The Samsung one is frankly terrible, the worst bit being the unremoveable ad links to the Samsung App store.

There's also an excellent App called KidsWorld (that I have installed to our Samsung) that adds Kids Mode to all tablets.

    • iOS have screen time.

  • I used a samsung Tab A 10 inch for mykids. There is a parent mode and you can basically banned some word from search mode. We add a glass protector and one of these unbreakable case for them to carry .

    • Would this serve the purpose?

      • Yes. I bought mine in 2016 and still run perfectly. The kids used it for playing games, microsoft office is also already installed so quite handy if you got homework to do and we just install youtube kids as there are more filters for what kids can watch or not on youtube.

        • Thanks

Within youtube kids, can you apply fruther filters on what shouldn't watch?

          • @Ash-Say: I don't recommend Youtube Kids, it's full of freaky shit and there is no way to filter it out.

If you're happy for your kid to watch youtube, The KidsWorld App I mentioned above can filter access to only Approved Channels.

@Ash-Say: Yes, you can if you create an account under your name and then another one with the real age of your child. Then you can start add either word or contents you don t want your kids to view. I just banned all ryan toys reviews.

            • @Fier2: That's exactly what I want to ban. Haha

              • @Ash-Say: We were totally annoyed by it .

Just make sure you go through all the settings before giving the tablet to kids .

            • @Fier2: You've banned one channel and think that's good enough?
What about all the other shit?
IMHO, Youtube Kids should have a whitelist only. In its current form it's downright dangerous!

I recommend that you watch what Youtube Kids presents to your child a little closer as there's a lot of freakshow content on there!

This is an extreme example, but it's simply not good enough that it has even occurred once, let alone the fact there's a bunch of other inappropriate content

@ESEMCE: I didn t ban only one channel but a couple of things. I just named the latest one. And for your information, i do watch youtube kids with them as i m always looking for words or contents that i don t want them to see. So far so good. My youngest one is set on anime show and documetaries like nickelodeon/ disney or animals. When the older one can watch some video game reviews. And we haven t got any surprise yet. When you go in options you can remove the option "auto-suggestion and search "as it avoids kids viewing something that wasnt in the list. But then every parenting is different. My kids love to show me what they watch and will comment on it.and i appreciate that they do come to me and despite watching something they still want to be next to me.

I think the most important thing to look at for a kids tablet is whether you can get an EVA Foam Case to fit the tablet!

They have saved our tablets innumerate times.
    So scan through eBay searching

    EVA Case Tablet name/model number

Anything that returns a hit add to your potential shopping list.
It'll mostly be Samsung an iPad.

For the record, My kids have a Lenovo P8 (with a Samsung Tab S4 case hacked to fit it - this is where I learned the above rule) and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 (which came "free" with our Optus Mobile Broadband SIM.

  • I use Protector Parental Control app from Google Play.
You can lock/disable any app including browser and setting with a pin.
I feel it's much better than any kids mode app out there.

Wouldn't it be helpful to know what age the child is, what they use the tablet for, etc.

    • 6.5 years

      • And what will they use it for?

        • Games, Skype and Youtube

          • @Ash-Say: For your budget, I don't think you will get a Samsung Tab A 10inch as suggested above; they seem to be ~$320

For that age, I would buy a lower cost unit. Officeworks has a Laser 10inch for $128, and a Lenovo 10inch for $166. I doubt the camera is important, so the Laser with a 12 month warranty would be my choice.

  • You can also use Family Link from Google to monitor kids usage.
