Deals on 2019 Subaru XV 2.0i-S

Has anyone been able to purchase a new 2019 Subaru XV 2.Oi-S in Victoria for under 37K.

This is my very first post on a forum so please be kind :)

Thank you

Have you offered that price to any dealers?

    • Hello Spackbace, that was the best price the Dealer could give me. I tried two other dealers but they couldn't get within 1.5K of that price so perhaps I should take it.

Don't bother haggling every Subaru dealership as they share inventory and offer the same price.

    • When I was looking at Subaru's last year, some Victorian dealerships had shared inventories (same owners) but not all. You could probably find out which are affiliated on their websites/carsales in order to bargain.

Also consider using a car-buying service, or a perhaps a demo?

      • Hello avidd, I have now tried 3 dealers and a broker. I would be happy with a demo but the demo price doesn't seem a lot different from the new price, say $1000 cheaper at the moment. My last bit of research was to try a forum so thank you. IT also seems the brokers can get a better discount on Mazda and Hyundai but not so much with Subaru.

      • From memory, almost all the metro Melbourne Subaru dealers are owned by Subaru Australia (aka Inchcape who own Trivett), so there is no incentive forthem to compete against each other.

Your best bet will be negotiating with dealers in regional Victoria - Bendigo, Ballarat, Warrnambool, etc.

(Edit: Berwick, Docklands, Doncaster, Essendon, Glen Waverley, Mentone and Werribee are all owned by Trivett)

Google seems to show dealers in Traralgon, Geelong, Leongatha, Lilydale, Bendigo, Ballarat, etc which aren't owned by Trivett.

        • Ol mate, that's great information thank you. Funnily enough I tried Wangaratta yesterday but they weren't overly friendly. I will try Geelong and Warnnambool and see how I go. Thanks again.

    • Thanks Allan. I was able to get three different prices from 3 different dealers. I am now going to check with a Broker. It is the first time I have bought a new car so wanted to do my homework.

  • Try Whirlpool where all the egg-spurts live.

There's a Subaru board there where one poster claims that they purchased a new 2019 2.0i s in Melbourne for $36250 drive away with tint and mats.

Another in NSW claims they brought the 2019 XV 2.0i-S model last month for around the mid $35 OTR with around $1200 extras thrown in.

Worth flying up and driving back for that price (if it's true)

  • Hello Hithere, I thought about going to NSW as some of the new cars were cheaper up there, however, I just checked the Vic Roads transfer of registration site and the transfer fees are around 2.5K on a 35K car which is quite expensive so when I added that on I thought I better deal in Vic. I will take a look at Whirpool and thank you for the info.

If you buy from interstate, request it be sold without on-roads. Then once you have it back in VIC, get it registered. Only need to pay one set of stamp duty and on-roads.

I did this with my last car. Came from Sydney. Delivered to Melbourne. Saved me about $3k over best VIC price.

  • Hi oscargamer, thank you for that info, I will check that out

As mentioned earlier IAR, who import and distribute Subaru for FHI, in Australia, also retail in some areas, including all the Metro sites in Melbourne, and several in Sydney.
Should you decide to purchase in NSW , just get the dealer to put a transit permit on the car, which allows you to drive the car ( directly ), back to Vic to register, or get them to quote trucking it to Melbourne.
There is no benefit to you in using a third party, ( broker), as his commission, has to come out of the margin in the car, which means less discount for you.
There is no difference in the margin from state to state, other than individual dealers Dealer delivery fees, which are padded with a margin.
Obviously on Statutory on road costs vary,
Remember, if you offer a price, and the dealer let’s you walk, then you are negotiating outside the margin.Dealers aren’t in the habit of walking away from Sales.
Don’t make the mistake of telling a dealer you have been offered xyz dollars.
Firstly if it is below margin then they know you are b,shitting. Secondly they will be reluctant to give you a price knowing that you are just going to spit it out to another dealer.
No good blaming the dealer if he stuffs you around, because you started it remember.
Once you have done your research go to the dealer most convenient to you, and try to put a deal together, remembering the above.
Full disclosure, I am now living the dream on the Sunshine Coast, having spent 12 years as a New Car Sales Manager for Subaru Dealerships for IAR.

      Full disclosure

Ah that's why your post makes so much sense ;)

  • Hi. I’m looking around too, but in NSW. I saw those whirlpool posts which seem quite cheap.

I’ve had offers via a broker around the $37,400 mark with rubber mats, window rain protectors, rear cargo mat, tint.

Might be able to get a bit more off but don’t think I’ll be able to get sub 37k.
Been told that cheaper prices may have been MY18 stock but I don’t know how true that might be.

Anyone have thoughts if this looks a reasonable price at the moment?

    Thank you.
