Honda CR-V (2017) Gear Shift Button Broken

Hey Ozbargainers,

The Honda Crv (2017) was purchased brand new during August 2017. Until today, the button on the Gear Shifter broke and fell out all of the sudden. Has the problem occured to anybody else? The vehicle has only gone about 29,000 kms and seems to be a common problem.

So, get it replaced under warranty and move on with life?

    Things break, it happens

That’s terrible. The car is completely unsafe and will never be the same once repaired. To save you the hassle I’ll take it off your hands. Be there on Wednesday to pick it up.

    1. It’s under warranty
    2. If it’s a common problem it should be easy for them to fix

    What spackbace said.

    Unbelievable.

Today/Tonight, A Current Affair, ACCC, NCAT, Fair Trading, Ombudsman… Have you tried writing a sternly worded tweet using a savvy yet obscure #hashtag? How about Whirlpool? Left a review on Productreview? Taken it up with Honda over Facebook?

Did you call your local dealer and ask them? Or did they tell you to come and ask here first?

Taken it up with Honda over Facebook?

No need to go blasting Honda over Facebook, that's going a little far. OP just needs to locate the Australian Director, Stephen Collins - get his address, drive there (in a Mazda, no less), ring his doorbell and give him an earful when he answers.

        Or they could always just go to the dealer and say;

“No, I want to speak to your managers managers manager…”

Could buy some Honda shares and turn up to a shareholders meeting and pass a motion to get the button fixed?

Could get onto ANCAP and see if, it being a common problem, they could spark a product recall. Takata shift button. Could come flying out in a crash.

Wonder if OP has considered a class action law suit with all the other affected owners?

I’ve head that the button is ok, it’s the car that is defective. They keep the button and replace the car.

    • sounds like a scam, would report it to the cops
      shut them down now lol

    • Yeah, I have a booking with the dealership tomorrow

Told me that they need to see if the part is available first

  • warranty.
Not sure why you are asking here

  • Will dealer be able to claim physical damage due to improper use of knob , not covered under warranty ?

  • Slightly off topic, but my Honda CRV sun visor clips are so loose they fall/pull out of the ceiling when one pulls the sun visor out…I've resorted to just leaving them out.

Can't google anyone with the same issue though. I have no idea why it happened all of a sudden.

Will be asking for them to fix under warranty at next service (can't be bothered going in just for this issue, but I have no idea how they will do it looking at the clips and the holes in the ceiling???

That’s probably going to have to go back to the factory.
