  • Sounds like an April Fools joke

you cant say that …not when it has extreme functional versatility

so this would be like lastpass right? your passwords are stored in the cloud?

it certainly offers convenience but if you are concerned with trusting an external party and their infrastructure you can use something like keepassxs instead, it's free, supports most browsers and instead of storing passwords in the cloud you store them either on your PC or better a usb drive

no idea if password depot11 offer that as an option but just a heads up that other viable cost free options

      • Unfortunately it does not support Keepass plugins.

        • the original keepass itself is abandonware isn't it? on top of that i am not sure i'd be that comfortable using plugins

iirc keepassxc is a fork of the old keepass, they've added browser integration and cross platform support, seems to work really well

edit: nevermind, i see that keepass is actively being worked on with ver 2, latest patch less than a month ago, my mistake

As much as I love the idea of locally stored passwords, if your computer crashes or gets hit by a lightning strike you can lose everything. USB sticks aren't that much better and are notorious for randomly corrupting stuff.

      • should always have a semi-recent backup of your database somewhere, preferably encrypted

probably important to keep the backup in sync for non-website password as those require more effort to reset, but website passwords not so much since they are very easily reset via automated systems anyway, losing a db of website passwords is relatively painless to restore but of course backups are always handy

bitwarden is free and open source. Highly recommend this instead.

    • I recommend the free, certified open source password manager KeePass.

      • I've been using KeePass for many years, but have just set up my own local instance of Bitwarden to test out. It's been alright so far. It's nice having apps on all platforms and a web interface I can access from just about anywhere.

    • I concur - bitwarden is both commercially supported and free open-source. I paid the $10/year just to support him.

Just use keychain if you have a Mac and iPhone.

    • Honestly this is where I’ve landed. Even when I switch to windows or Linux I just copy it from my iPhone. The whole lastpass master password thing meant I couldn’t even get back into my account.. too hard

      • +1

Are you complaining about LastPass because you forgot your master password?

        • +1

youre probably doing it wrong if you've forgot your master password

          • @desync: "This meal was absolutely horrendous. I forgot to use a fork and it got absolutely everywhere."

            • @Tacooo: for me that phrase isn't nearly ridiculous enough, the more outrageous the imagery the easier it is to remember, at least it is for me.. at any rate you should probably be using your master password frequently enough that it's almost impossible to forget

              • @desync: I signed up for it, forgot about it and tried to cancel the billing but I couldn’t because I didn’t have the recovery phrase. My fault I know but I had to contact support just to stop paying. In any event I prefer iCloud Keychain as I’m mostly on apple apart from a steam box and a Linux workstation for hobby stuff

  • damn expired. I missed it.
