Didn't think the family and friends shouldn't incurred fees with Paypal. +1 for bitcoin.
Are you only sending AUD or NZ? If either are not getting converted, opening a bank ac is cheapest.
If you're sending AUD and its converted to NZ by middleman ie Paypal. You can use TransferWise (use referral link for more benefit).
