Kia Cerato YD 2016 - Head Unit Replacement

Hi all,

I recently bought a cerato yd 2016 base model without the android auto/ car play head unit. I was wondering would it be a easy swap out to the manufacturer android auto headunit by kia from the higher grade models? I dont like how the aftermarket unit looks in the car.

Anyone know more about this?

Thanks a lot.

  • Give Kia a call and see if it can be done is my suggestion

look like totally different screen sizes etc so i doubt it

    • Yea. I was gonna drop by the kia , just wondered if anyone did it before i can just buy a used one for 200-300 instead of 500$ plus installation from kia.

      • I tried asking KIA when I sent my car in for service as I had the same idea as you.

They tried to sell me aftermarket units and I just couldn't be bothered after that.

        • oh. Im gonna try calling couple of them, just in case :)

      • I actually looked at this because I have a 2014 Si and wanted to upgrade my head unit. The standard fascia plates you can buy for the YD Cerato's have 2DIN slots. That fascia for the new one you linked has a larger area for the stereo because it incorporates the physical buttons - so you'd need to buy the whole unit and fascia, probably off a wrecker (and they're hard to find). Unfortunately wreckers charge around $500 for this unit.

I'm going to go down the route of installing an android head unit (Joying or similar), or just your standard after market android auto/car play JVC/Sony/Kenwood/Pioneer. Haven't decided yet, but hoping to stay as OEM-looking as possible.

  • +2

Also try a dedicated KIA web forum or facebook group. You might find there are people that have already done it or tried it and can advise very specifically. It will be better than asking in here to be honest.

    • i did search for it, couldnt locate a anything specific to headunit for cerato. except for one guy in whirlpool asking the same thing. i tried sending private msg as well, no response.

      • Did you try asking in a KIA Cerato facebook group? Even the international ones. Theres a FB group for every make and model.

        • NO i didnt. Looking for one at the moment :)

          • @justaguy123: ALso try the Kia Cee'd groups as the cerato is called the cee'd in the UK.

Theres a FB group called "KIA Ceed Owners CLub" with 2300 members. Try that one.

  • It should be all plug and play. The fascia that surrounds the head unit might need to change over and you won't have the rear camera installed, but apart from that, I can't imagine that there will be any difference with the wiring itself.

  • Have you tried eonon? They make plug and play units for non standard cars. We have one in our Mondeo

    • Just had a look and nope - they haven't got. Plus I read your question wrong anyway, sorry!

    • I've got a Kayhan unit in my BA Falcon. I just looked on their website now and see they have them for the Cerato as well.

      • weirdly in an australian website, they have left hand drive version :/

        • found RHD version, twice as much for older android version from aliexpress or ebay..
I think for me, its either KIA one or nothing.. I dont wanna mess around much

  • If any one else is interested in doing same, Kia quoted me "more than $4000 for the job" FYI.

  • @justaguy123 any update? I want a head unit that doesn't ask me to "agree" every time I start the car (and possibly newer maps). Apparently newer models than my YD Cerato 2017 this disappears after 10 seconds. And BTW $4k is ridiculous.

  • anyone wanting to do this, it's possible although not as straight forward as plug and play

I recommend getting an intermediary harness such as Aerpro CT10HY04 so you avoid chopping up the factory harness

in short, you'll need to manually wire connector B pin 11 to 18 (to fix the wiring for acc)

after this, you have 2 options
    1. splice and hardwire to remap the usb connections
    2. replace the usb/aux ports with the later model (note the benefit of this is less chopping up, but you'll forfeit the aux connection)

if you do all the above, your andriod auto/apple play should work

an optional step to allow for your phone to charge at a better is to now wire power to pin 11 (note it was towards the end of day and i cbb with this step). recommend here you run a wire from the wire going into the 12v power cigarette light port.

as usual, do your own research before attempting this on your own, just sharing my experience.
