  • No local dimming on the series 6.

    • does r5 have local dimming? how to check?

      • +1

It says direct lighting on the Hisense website

        same as the 65P6

Both say they have HDR10 at least. I think Hisense local dimming has about 1,000 LEDs, ultra dimming has about 5,000, and I guess 4K OLED has essentially 8 million light sources. Direct lighting has I don't know how many light sources, but they can't be locally dimmed.

      • Sorry to be dim bit exactly how important is this? Is the difference obvious watching sports?

Dimming is very important on an LCD, it’s what makes an LCD more like an OLED, in the sense of achieving true blacks in dark areas of the screen, without this, or if poorly implemented, you get blooming effects around bright parts next to dark parts of the display, eg, halo effect.
If your LCD has no dimming feature, you essentially rely on the quality of the display with backlight bleeding coming through everywhere it’s supposed to be dark, resulting in greys instead of blacks, all this is mostly noticeable in a very dark viewing room with either a faintly lit tv scene (no dimming) or in the case of poorly implemented dimming, a halo affect around bright objects in a faintly lit tv scene.
It’s not so much a factor in sports unless they’re poorly lit sports and have dark areas with lots of lights, those lights will end up throwing a halo effect into dark surroundings, best example could be an F1 night race in certain camera angles, but it’s primarily a feature targeted to improving dark movie and game scenes.
The Sony X9500G/X950G is one of the worst brands/TV’s to suffer from this, but at the same time one of the best for upscaling and post processing an image, so you get the best and worst in one TV.

  • What about something like the 65R5 does that have Dimming? how does the 65R5 compare to this model? they are around the same price

    • The new Hisense 2019 models seem to have improved dimming, some of them are now well ahead of the competition in dimming technology, but you’ll have to research the models, starting from 7 series up I believe they start to get good, the ultra dimming is in the 9 series not yet released.
