The Good Guys: Damaged Fridge on Delivery

We live in a unit above the groundfloor and we don't have a lift in the buiding. The TGG delivery driver and his assistant decided to take the fridge out of the trolley, and bring it upstairs by hand. Half way through the assistant dropped the fridge and as per photos below it damaged the back of the fridge.

It seems to be minor, but you never know if there was a damage internally. The fridge seems to be working well, but how would you guys proceed? No bother? Contact TGG for refund? Contact TGG for sending someone to check the fridge and fix it?

Cheers,

Both are valid options. What do YOU want to do?

Also, why did you accept it if damaged? Where's the proof you didn't take a sledgehammer to it after delivery?

I sent TGG an email reporting the problem and asking how to proceed.

You should have rejected it as damaged goods instead. If you signed a delivery note and didn't mention any damage, don't see why they're liable.

The damage was noticed after they left.

          • @SuperFly 420: So it's your word vs theirs unfortunately. Hopefully TGG will resolve as part of goodwill gesture but there's no proof the courier damaged it now.

@Hybroid: What about the damage, seems to be minor isn't it?

              • @SuperFly 420: Yea, it looks minor faceplate damage from the pics.

              • +1

@SuperFly 420: It's on the back, so you'll never see it. It is minor damage to a part that in no way affects the operation of the fridge. Just put the fridge in it's new home and forget about it.

just unplug it, poor boiling water and use a plunger to pull it out

    • Ummm, did you look at the photo?

      • yes? I meant unscrew it though

40 grit wet and dry followed by a spit shine.

Me personally, I wouldn't care if that is all it is. That piece is just there to protect the parts underneath and it did it's job.

If you want, take the grille off, whack it back into shape with a hammer and move on. Looks like it is only held in by a few screws.

  • Had the same issue but a dint on the front, with good guys also, they offered me $50 off but I refused and got the freezer door replaced after a wait for parts.

    • so they set up the freezer so you could use it in the meantime, and then just came and swapped out the door with a new one?

  • Its minor damage, make a complaint and get an email acknowledging it then move on.

  • That's a pretty minor damage for dropping a fridge on its side? I'd be concerned about internal components.

  • Make sure you know what you are doing if you are removing the plate.

It sounds like they've gone above and beyond.

    Your damage is minor.

    1 + 1 = be grateful.

I agree. I'm pretty sure they don't have to take it up stairs, so they have done a huge favour.

      • They took photo os the stairs and said they get paid extra, although that could be BS as well.

  • You bought a new fridge, you should get a new fridge. As you said there might be damage to the compressor that will affect the life of it. I would at the very least complain about this and see what they say, tho I have to say you should have checked it further and got written confirmation of them dropping it if you witnessed it yourself. However, sometimes these things don't come to mind in the moment and it doesn't alleviate their liability.

  • Just put a sticker over it.

  • I don't understand, you knew they dropped the fridge yes? But why didn't you try to look at it straight away after they unboxed it? and yet you just signed the delivery form acceptance straight away…

A similar thing happened to me last September with TGG.
    The delivery driver took the fridge out of the cardboard box to bring it up the stairs to my apartment (also no elevator). They must’ve hit a railing or corner as by the time I took all the plastic protection off (driver had already left) there was a dent in one of the stainless steel panels on front of the fridge. I contacted TGG who offered 2 options;
    1) Get the fridge manufacturer to come out and replace the front panel that was damaged. No turn around ETA could be provided.
    2) Get a 10% refund of the price of the fridge due to being damaged in delivery.
I chose option 2 and had the money put back onto my card. No issues whatsoever.

  • Ask for partial refund or store credit.

Read the T and C for delivery. It may be they dont cover damage being taken up the stairs. There is lots of different things that can happen and the term usually used is kerb side delivery that you are paying for.

    Storm in a teacup.

Just be thankful they even offered to carry it up the stairs.

  • Did they also say it was a female fridge when it was actually a male fridge?

But seriously, did you witness how hard (from what height) they dropped it? Only a significant drop (you would think) would damage internal components.

I would ask for a new metal casing (or as others have mentioned, or take off and bend yourself if easy) and also let them know the assistant dropped it in case of issues down the line.

  • that's nothing.
    bend it out yourself.
    it's out of sight.

    you have a fridge

  • 4) Contact TGG and let them know. Don't expect anything as a result, but they may give you a gift card or something to make you happy.

  • Similar thing happened to me with an Ikea fridge. Had a small dent on the side but it was integrated so I would never have seen it.

Decided I had paid full price so I shouldn’t have to accept it. Called Ikea (on a Sunday evening) and they sent a new one out the following morning. I would get it replaced

  • That's why I love Appliances Online. They have a 14-day return policy if for whatever reason you don't love your product. They even pick it up and deliver the replacement product free of charge.

Two years ago I bought a fridge from them but after using it for a few days realised it was too small for my needs. Got a larger fridge delivered but then it had a small dent on the bottom of the door. Got them to send yet another fridge out.

  • Same thing also happened to me. As others have done, I asked for a discount and got it . It was somewhere around 10% for a dent !
