Hi all
In my experience it seems there is significant value in 'hopping' between sims to take advantage of 'new customer' offers (such as Kogan as they come around and catch connect). In both these cases it works out to be around 5/mnth for unlimited calls and at least 15 gb of data a month.
For example, the popular boost plan here gives 80gb over 12 months for 150 - which is still 12.5$ a month and I need approximately 10-12gb a month in my case.
However the porting process can get a bit tedious.
Having a dual sim device, I'm thinking there might be comparable 'value' by holding my number/receiving calls on a low price+low data+ long expiry plan, and putting in burner second sim for data needs.
Does any one have any thoughts on the best value sim for my main number for this arrangement?
Cheers
I've tried to solve this dilemma as well.
I ended up concluding that it was not worth it, at least not in Australia, with our reception, prices, and data allowances. You're better off getting something that has unlimited calls/sms, and the amount of data you need for the month, then keeping it as that single SIM. It makes it easier for phone upgrades, and future number ports and plan upgrades too. And its just less headache for maybe an insignificant money.
Where DualSIM tactics work best is if you're given a work phone and SIM, you sell off the work phone and replace it with an Android DualSIM phone of your choice. You use the work phone for only work calls, but use its data allowance. And use your personal number for calls/sms for your friends and family. And when travelling overseas, the DualSIM feature becomes very handy if there's not much Wifi/WhatsApp around.
