Skipping Complimentary 1500km Service

Hey everybody!!

So I have a new car I got a month and a bit ago (2019 Eclipse Cross) and it's on 1300km at the moment.

I have a free complimentary service coming up at 1500km and I have not booked it.

I'm super busy right now and am always very tired so i really can not be bothered bringing the car over for servicing as the place I bought it from is a bit far (they said I have to service it at the same place I bought it from and not from a closer Mitsubishi dealer - not sure if this is true) and I'm just really not seeing the need either.

My question is:

Is it okay for me to just skip this first free service. They ask me to service only once a year and I only use the car to drive to work (averaging less than 1000km/mth).

Thanks in advance friends.

Update:

Thank you friends for the responses.

I wanted to skip it because I thought they weren't really going to do anything/much mechanically speaking just like some of you have said.

I did not know that it voids the warranty so thank you on that. I would also have little recourse if they used me skipping a free service to blame me on everything so thank you all for making me see the light.

I will call them up today and book an appointment.

Pretty sure they're lieing to you, you should be able to get it done at any Mitsubishi dealer.

You would be seriously stupid to skip it. I doubt it really matters in a mechanical sense (all they do is look) but if something breaks in 5000km they'll blame you for skipping this service. Don't be lazy, just get it done. They'll probably do it whilst you wait if you ask nicely.

Don’t skip it. It’s important from a pre-delivery viewpoint. There may have been things that were missed or that need to be checked, like going over the suspension bolts after it’s had time to bed in.

Also, you can take it and get it done at any Mitsubishi dealership. You don’t ever have to take your vehicle back to the same dealer you bought it from… they want you to and they will lie to you to get you to do it.

Yes thank you friend for your insight on the pre-delivery viewpoint.

I have heard about this for bicycles but never thought it to be significant.

Sure, but don't complain if you have problems later on.

    1. so what if you moved to the other side of the country, would they insist u drop it in to them for all services…. u can use any Mitsubishi service centre.

    2. Make time, or don’t complain when you void your warranty and lower you cars value as a result

Why buy a new car if you’re not going to look after it?

Haha this post is hilarious. Should I skip the free service on my brand new car because I am sleepy! I think a used car or even a bicycle would have suited you better.

Why are you so sleepy that you are considering this - what is stopping you from sleeping an appropriate amount?

    • Maybe he's awake all night worrying about car payments?

    • I have a used car and motorbike and from a layman's view it's more obvious that, mechanically speaking, they need to be inspected a lot more than a brand new car (not even 2 months old).

I'm just so tired because my newborn baby learned how to shout and scream and now everybody can't sleep :(

Skip a Service, and bye bye Warranty!

If you're always very tired, perhaps you shouldn't be driving lest you fall asleep at the wheel and cause an accident

    • Yes I've had some really close incidents recently when driving home from work and I wish I didn't need to drive at all.

Thank you for your concern friend.

        Use public transport/Uber?

Also, as someone who's been involved in four not-at-fault accidents, it's more concern for me that you'll drive into my car due to fatigue (but I have comprehensive insurance to cover that) …

  • resale value if selling privately as well. I wouldn't buy it if i had the choice between two at the same price.

  • Don’t worry about the service. While you are t it, you might as well cancel your insurance. Nothing could possibly go wrong.

  • I havent read the other comments, but the first service is by far the most important. Your engine is breaking in, theres a lot of shredding of metal going on in the engine, its essential to do the service to remove this via an oil change.

  • Check with the dealership whether they have a pick up/drop off service (maybe at an extra cost).
My dealership stuffed up a booking and they gave me this for free. Someone comes to pick up your car and then drops it back out to you. Great service if available
