I'm a pretty irregular online gamer and generally play games like RDR2, Dark Souls 3/Bloodborne, and (more recently and poorly) Apex Legends. I'd like to branch out a bit though, especially games where players make use of the mic to speak to one another.
Any suggestions? I'm leaning towards shooters but I've been out of the FPS game for so long that I have no idea what's good or popular!
There are many great communities of gamers at the moment thanks to high quality games receiving long term updates allowing them to get sustained engagement. First one that comes to mind is the highly competitive Rainbow Six Seige. You can pick up the base game for very cheap and enjoy saving hostages on console. Voice chat is super popular there.
Games like that have a big learning curve, so really give yourself 10 hours or so to get a sense whether it is for, before you lock in how you feel about it.
I think Destiny and Destiny 2 are both cheap, sometimes free with large communities and plenty to do. It's easier to play games like that where you are cooperating together and meet people, make friends.
Division 2, GTA5 also if FPS doesn't interest you, Ghost Recon Wildlands too. Maybe hop on twitch and just watch some footage of the top games to get a sense whether they appeal to your personality. This will save you wasting time or money on something that wont work for you
