Good phone bought last year, pretty happy with it.

I loved this phone and bought 2 for the wife and I.
However on both phones the charging port became loose and failed to charge reliably sent one away for service which took 2 months to get back.
So i am disappointed with the build quality…

  • How is the camera? I am looking at getting the Mi 9 but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

    • Can’t compare with iPhone or Samsung, it’s good does the job

      Review https://www.androidauthority.com/nokia-7-plus-review-863998/

    • Thought about the mi9 SE?

      • Yeah I did. A few technical differences for $100+.

I'm keeping an eye on a few phones but mainly needs a good camera.

        • The camera on the mi 9 SE looks impressive especially for the price, I don't think it's worth the jump especially for those who don't need a massive screen to jump on the mi9

          • @Gomo: Thanks for the advice. Do you own a se?

            • @GangGang: @GangGang No but as of this morning I purchased one :)

    • Nokia 7 Plus has decent camera but Mi 9 is definitely better phone in every way except software (and subjectively design of course), including better and far more versatile cameras.

  • Just to be clear, the updates come through Nokia, and can take months.

i.e. my Android One Nokia 6.1 (2018) currently shows "Security patch level 1 May 2019" and has no outstanding updates.

Probably not an issue, but that's how it works.

None but Essential and Pixel phones have timely update (literally same day). Even OnePlus 7/7Pro just received May update.

Regardless, Android phones are getting more and more up to date nowadays. Currently in my house:
      Pixel 2 = June
      Pocophone F1 = May
      Samsung J5 Pro = April

So yeah, doesn't get desperately out of date like before.

  • This or moto G7 plus? Seem to be very similar

Better camera and battery from Nokia 7 plus.

I've owned this phone for two weeks now. Give you some insight.

Pros: Great battery life. 5 1/2 hours screen time with 20% battery left.
    B28,NFC, Android One, Fast Charge

Biggest cons: Touch screen sensitivity is very poor, buggy. As confirmed by two other whirlpool users.
When phone is on table, sometimes it's impossible to wake up with touch screen, double tap, snooze alarms.
It's fine once the phone has been picked up. So could be a software related bug
Scrolling through photos with your thumb left to right is almost impossible (no gallery by default, only google photos another con)

Using the pull down screen is difficult, you can use the fingerprint sensor though.

The volume buttons, power buttons are hard to press as they are so thin.

Also there is a design flaw with the usb c plug being slightly loose, which causes it to stop charging over time.
One user has had this replaced twice on whirlpool. It's a well known issue by Nokia.

I have had the same phone for almost a year now.

I think you have a faulty unit with the touch screen. Mine is fine but only stops responding when on the car holder. Yes it is a common known fault, but your's sounds extreme and probably worth getting it replaced.

My first unit had a USB issue as well. Replaced it with a new phone 2 months after and haven't had an issue since.

You're right though, overall not the best quality control, but it is still the best bang for buck phone I've ever own.

    • How is Google Photos a con? I've found it superior to every other gallery app I've ever used in the past.

  • Is the LG V30 Plus 4GB RAM/128GB worth $35 more compared to this phone? Wondering how that previous flagship compares to this solid mid-range phone. Specs seem better on the LG but Nokia seems to have better updates (though the V30 Plus is at least scheduled to get an Android Pie update this year)

Go for the V30+, the processor is so much faster and quality DAC.

    • +1

      yes, IMO.
The 7 Plus has made cheaper compromises in water resistance, screen, CPU, storage, construction, sound connectivity and charging.
The v30 has water resistance, higher res AMOLED screen, faster UFS storage (compared to eMMC), lighter weight at 158g, faster CPU, Quad DAC for wired and Apt-x for bluetooth headphones. Also wireless charging.
Regarding updates, both v30 and 7 plus are in the Android Enterprise Recommended program, so security updates should be similar.

Great phone let down by the USB port flaw which means sooner or later you have a lemon. Nokia have not acknowledged the issue either.

  • Hmm. This or P30 Lite for a bit more money?
I have Amex deal saved on my card so could pick this up for 348…

  • had for about a year, charging port come loose very hard to charge now, other wise very good, camera was better in my S7 though

  • Damn. the quality issues make this a no go for me no matter how cheap, what a shame.
