  • does this apply to commonwealth visa debit?

      well… i don't see how you have points on a debit card… so…

    • don't think so. its only for awards point, those accounts usually have two cards in one account, e.g., a mastercard and an amex card. correct me if im wrong. =)

      • Not sure what you're on about. I have only a VISA with Commonwealth, with Awards, and I got the 10% discount. Thanks OP!

I think they are talking about different cards…your VISA card is a credit card right? The Visa Debit cards are essentially debit cards and presumably don't have an awards program.

        • oops.. sorry.. no offense there.. thanks for the info.. =)

        • The standard package for Awards cards is a Mastercard/Visa plus an American Express on the same account (the AMEX earns more awards points per dollar spent). Existing cardholders had to request the new card, and I don't think they're issuing new Visa accounts.

Didn't you get a bunch of junk mail about it?

Thanks, Conbank didn't let me know about this - I have plenty of points to redeem so this will be good chance.

    • yeah, me too..weird that they don't notify its members, although u sign up for newsletter, etc. nv sent anything commbank related to me.. it might cause their conbank system to break down if they send all the members a notification which isn't that hard. =x

    • They quite often notify me of these sorts of deals in the mail. It could be that its still coming.

    • me too! thanks OP

      • no problem.. cheers.. =)

  • It mentions it when you log into netbank

Has anyone looked into which redemptions offer the best value for money recently? It used to be that the Caltex Star Cards had one of the better point:dollar ratios. I'd like to hear people's thoughts.

Maybe if we find a good deal/loophole we can ozbargain CBA ;)

I did a calculation of point:dollar ratio too. It turned out the best value is $100 gift cards for 16,200 points (before discount) imho. The options are David Jones, Kmart, and some others. This is better than Caltex Star Cards or Coles with an extra 1000 points.

At the moment, the best one is actually the Roses Only gift cards. They have a promotion on going, $100 for 12,200 points.

However, in my case, I use it for Coles gift cards to cover my groceries which I definitely spend on it anyway.
      I claimed 2 x $100 Coles gift cards. The cost is 10,400 points + $114.

      10,400 points = $86

ooops, just redeemed cash back several days ago

  • The best redemption offer thus far is the annual credit card rebate. I don't usually get the giftcards but with this offer it might be worthwhile looking into.

    • Yeh but u can only redeem the month it charges you, second best is 100master card,

  • looks like they're doing this every june to try to lower their liabilities.

Anyways, does anyone know how long the gift cards are valid for?

    • at least a year i suppose.

    • Same as in store gift cards i.e. usually 2 years from date of issue. They're a month or two old when they send them out in my experience, so you can take a couple of months off the length.

  • I redeem the prepaid mastercard giftcards…

More flexibility in what you can buy.

But no 10% off with them :(

  • I've got 67,593 points

Thinking about the $500 Coles gift voucher for 67,327 points + $41

  • +1

Just did the calcs, best value are the $500 target/david jones/kmart gift vouchers for 78,000 points which equals $0.0064 / point.

    • After discount 70200 points which equates to $0.0071/point or about $7 for $1000 of spending.

Nice, was just about to claim some cash back and then I thought "wait! I've seen an ozb deal on this!". Thanks op

    • no worries… good to help ozbargainers get better deals.. especially from conbank.. =)

  • The system appears to let you spend all your points on a worthless calculation without actually having anything of value in your cart. So you could blow all your points on a calculation and get nothing in return. I didn't actually complete the checkout process, so maybe there is a safe guard.

I only have around 2600 points. I already redeemed some earlier in the year.
