If I'm Not Using The Mobile Data for Internet but from a Wi-Fi, Is It Better to Use 3G or 2G on My Phone to Save Battery?

As title im asking in general to save more battery. Iheard 4g uses more power but im not using it for internet

  • On my phone the mobile data icon disappears when connected to wifi. It only shows up as in use when sending an MMS.

  • in my phone im using wifi now but it says im conected to vodafone4g and modile data is off

Since 2G no longer exists the question is kinda irrelevant assuming you intend on maintaining connectivity.

    • how about 3g? im not sure if the g required for calls and text?

g is just shorthand for generation.
1G = the first mobile phone network technology , using analog technology
2G = the second mobile phone network technology, the first digital networks
3G = the third mobile phone network technology, first data centric digital networks
4G = the fourth mobile phone network technology, first data only digital networks (no voice dedicated channels) with a focus on data throughput
5G = the fifth mobile phone network technology, second data only digital networks with a focus on low latency

2G networks have been switched off in Australia for at least 12 months now.
If you want to receive calls/send texts you MUST use at least 3G.
Toggling off mobile data will help to increase battery life, but it will prevent you from sending and receiving MMS

I recommend GPRS. You should get top speeds of 16kb per second which is enough for a YouTube page to load in 14 days

  • 2G for sure, any more will necessitate your buying a battery case.

I'd expect 2G to actually use MORE battery. With no 2G service, the phone will constantly be looking for a signal (and using full power to do so). Maybe, just maybe, if you could choose 2G vs a very, very marginal 3G signal…maybe….

But yeah, moot point, you want at least 3G.

  • 4G no signal inside CBD building

switch to 3G get full signal
