Gaming Laptop Buying Help $2500~

Hi guys,

I'm looking to replace an old MSI GT72 (980m) with a new laptop.

Essentials:
around $2500AUD, but happy to go a bit over if the specs are worth it.

Don't really want something that screams gamer, as I would like to use it in a professional work environment also, so smaller/slimmer form factor and lack of chassis art/lighting a plus.

Preferably purchased within Australia for warranty purposes.

Must be a big screen, 17"+, 120hz+

minimum i7 8750H

minimum 512GB SSD (preferably NVMe)

minimum 16GB RAM

minimum RTX 2060

This is what I have so far, I'm kind of leaning towards the Asus as a more well known and supported brand, I wouldn't want to go any more 'gamer' than those aesthetics though.

Any advice would be much appreciated, cheers.

  • I'd get something with an upgradeable GPU slot, as this is the main thing that you'll want to upgrade in 2 years.

    • Do these exist?

only on high end clevo / metabox and the alienware area51m

    • Pretty sure those are useless since they are properitary. Better off getting a Thunderbolt eGPU.

    • Yeah, that's the whole reason I bought my current MSI GT72, because it was advertised as being GPU upgrade-able for 3 generations, then they never released the kits to do it.

Sole reason I'm not buying another MSI, as other than their blatant false advertising and lack of support over it, the laptop has been incredible over the 4 years I've owned it.

      • Yeah I have an Apache pro and wont be buying another msi laptop.

Hey mate check lenovo official website

That asus is $2380 at computer alliance with EOFY15 promo code and there appears to be a $200 cashback promo.

    $2180 is pretty good value.
