Jetstar Brisbane to Bali Flight Refund Policy

Hi fellow OzBargainers, was wondering if anyone had the same situations before?
Me and wifey had booked a jetstar flight 10 months ago to Bali.
Fast forward to today we are expecting a baby and will be 7 month pregnant.
Doctor doesn't recommend us to go to Bali since there is a risk with Zika virus.
Some friends did travel to places with Zika and they said it should be ok.
But we decided not to take the risk even it's a low risk.
Just curious whats the chance they will do a full or partial refund?
Have emailed them about this. No response as yet.
Thanks for your opinions guys.

  • Unfortunately they will not :(

most airlines wont let you fly at that stage of pregnancy, try going that route

I hope you got travel insurance - if you did they may cover this

Surely travel insurance would not cover this?
It's not as though it is a medical condition or similar, and the booking is still valid to use (if OP chooses to do so).

      • If a doctor says they can no longer travel?

        • Yes, if that satisfies the insurance requirements.
They can travel, but it is most likely to be recommended that they should not travel.

Travel insurance will cover your cancellation costs if your doctor provides a letter stating that it's not safe for you to travel.

Go to your Dr. get a letter saying that your wife should not be flying.

Jetstar will give you a refund voucher, worked for me this year.

    • Thanks @Iberation, will try that too. Do we need to state any reason for her not to fly? (Zika risk for pregnancy etc)

Less is more. Stick to the medical certificate.

      • Don't elaborate on anything more than what is stated in the certificate. Even if they ask via email or phone, etc. simply state; Reason/s are as stated in the doctor's certificate.

Know someone who was in the same situation recently. Jetstar refused any refund or credit. They got their doc to write a note that its not safe for her to travel and claimed on insurance. Cheers!

    Zero.

You do have travel insurance right? That will cover you!

Tens of thousands of Aussies travel to Bali annually and yet I have not heard of a single case of anyone contracting the zika virus. Just take precautions and you'll be okay. Unless you took out travel insurance before the pregnancy occured you have buckleys of getting anything out of them.

I'm not sure how accurate that can be

"In most cases, there are no symptoms."

"When present, symptoms are mild and last less than a week. They include fever, rash, joint pain and red eyes."

I don't think most people would know, or would assume its something else.

  • You probably won’t get a refund - you may get a travel credit. Get doctors certificate and call up

  • Thanks for all the advise and opinion guys. Will get the doc cert and see how we goes. Fingers crossed. Thanks.

    • Hi gohanboi, how did you go with your claim? I'm in a similar situation at the moment and I'm gathering info.

had the refund. Go through it to their chat function and send the doc cert. they approved straight away. Good Luck.

        • Thanks, I'm in a similar situation, non refundable overseas airfares bought through Expedia. Expedia says tickets are non refundable so I will have to cancel and claim the money through Credit Card insurance.
