I'm needing 4 SIM cards to simply port to and out.
I'm aware of the free Telstra SIM cards available to purchase online, however I need to get this done today or tomorrow.
In true ozbargain style, I'd prefer not to throw $8 down the drain. Is anyone aware of any starter packs on sale or even free from a retail store?
Not totally correct. I have a vodafone $2 that needs $ put on it before it can be used.
However getting the Telstra $2 sim should work

A Telstra owned Telstra store might give you one for free.
not a huge fan of porting in and back. you are just asking for issues. Delays can happen in porting leaving in you in limbo. I know a lot of people do it but I would suggest managing your sim collection and moving from one carrier to another between months. It will cause you a lot less headaches. Avoid do a sp transfer at all costs at it can cause big delays (A sp transfer is defined as moving from one provider to another that uses the same network)
Get a $2 from coles or woolies, just dont get one that is your current network ie optus voda telstra
