What Is The Best Robot Vacuum at a Price Point of ~ $1000?

Hi folks,

I've been looking at buying a high performance robotic vacuum (something solid and well built that can handle animal hair effortlessly. I have been eyeing the Electrolux Purei9 but reviews are mixed (still considering it, though).

Which one do you own and what are its pros and cons? Anybody own the Purei9?

Thanks in advance.

  • Roborock S6

    • Thanks. Will look into it but concerned about the build quality of Xiaomi products.

      • We bought a Xiaomi roborock v2. Couldn’t be more happier. In fact, arguably one of the best purchases made in the past year.

        Some points of interest:
Used weekly, so far over 4000mins of use. No issues encountered.
Mainly used on hardwood floor and a large 3x4m rug.
Used mainly in turbo mode and sometimes max mode
        Avg cleaning area 87sqm.
Can sometimes get stuck, but just make sure you move furniture to accomodate
Make sure cables are not within reach or they’ll get tangled up.
Have a car which malts, cleans up well of any hair, fur.
Replacement parts (filter, roller, spinning arm) are cheap. Knockoff are fine, but not the spinning arm thingy. Try to get the genuine part. Last knockoffs broke after a couple of cleans. Genuine part is around $18AUD for 2, but last for months (3+).
Easy to use via phone app.
No issues with build quality, firmware updates.
Stupid thing can get confused occasionally and redo the same area, but not an issue.
Recommended by 2 work colleagues. Brilliant.

        Good luck.

        • Thanks for the info, it's much appreciated.

  • +3

I'd just get a Xiaomi for $350, and a Dyson V7 to do the couches/hard spots.

    • Thanks for the advice.

I got lucky and bought an Electrolux Ultracaptic when it was at its cheapest at an insane $199! It's been working great. Very solid unit, and powerful. I later discovered the price went up to $900. It's a retired model now.

As a back up, I found a (corded) Dyson DC25 from the Salvos for $30. Works great and not as cumbersome as the Electrolux (love the ball action, too) so I've been using that lately.

    • Hahaha. That image is decidedly sexist. I'll call her Ursula. Or maybe I'll get a male version, too. I'll call him Fabio.

  • By the way. Do these Purei9s actual work as real vacuum cleaners or are they just like sweepers. I have a feeling you will still need to use a proper vacuum to pick up the real dirt.

    • There are mixed reviews on Harvey Norman. I'm thinking of waiting for a next gen model, but hoping to get more ideas in this forum.

      • The only reason I say is that I don't think these small round so called vacuums have enough sucking power. They seem to just flick dirt into their catcher.

        • I agree, many do just move dirt and dust around.

  • You could probably get this for $1200 if you play your cards right. Probably more chance from a franchise store than a company store.

    Great robot vacuum.

However a robot should never ever replace a normal vacuum cleaner. Even more so if there is carpet. They are essentially a glorified dust sweeper.

    • Interesting, thanks. Agreed, I don't think robot vacuums are advanced enough to replace a regular vac, especially if you have rugs or carpet.

  • One that does the washing and ironing, makes the bed and cooks breakfast for you

  • Neato D7 (not sure if still available for sub $1,000).

1.Li battery (many are not. Weird I know)
    2. Roller's bearings are not directly fitted against housing. Sounds trivial or technical but it was the cause of failure of my old neato. Hair gets stuck between bearing and housing. Heat builds up and wears the housing. I can change the roller but I can't change the damaged housing therefore rendering it useless.
    3. Computing is good. No regular errors (see Dyson Eye360 for the opposite)

    • Thanks for the suggestion.
